I have no problem with Bozak, and discussions of trade worth, let alone comparative trade worth (by idiots on the internet no less), have nothing to do with accomplishment or improvement as a player.
If you watch both play, you probably see some of this similar things that Oilers fans do - he's still in his own head a fair bit, but has become a lot more responsible and well-rounded, and has moments of clarity where he looks really good. - Morris
He put up better numbers in his rookie season, but has become more well rounded...
When SG was with London he was an offensive weapon, and I think he came to the NHL thinking he would be the same, and realized he needs a better defensive game...
He still is only what 22? He still hasn't even fully matured.
What do you see as SG's ceiling?
#1 Centre? Or #2 Centre with 65-70pts? Or lower? |

Turris and Gagner arent even in the same class bud. Gags is 10 times the player. - Oilfan19

you keep saying that, so what's his point? is it that comparing two reasonably close players, like turris and gagner, is the same as comparing players who aren't even on the same plane of existence, like schultz and karlsson?
good point - sensarmy_11
The argument is that you can't say Gagner>Turris because Turris hasn't gotten a chance to show himself. Taking that principle, that you can't compare many games of player X to few games of player Y, to its logical conclusion, they are employing a rhetorical device called "reductio ad absurdum" - wherein you posit that following a certain principle is a slippery slope towards and absurd conclusion.
Basically, using that principle you arrive at the ridiculous conclusion that you're not allowed to say Karlsson is clearly better than Schultz. He clearly is.
It's an inelegant move, but it makes its point. There's no reason you can't say Gagner is a better player than Turris right now. |

wow, chris phillips is the best comeback you have. our d-man, who's got 1000 games logged, and was one of the better shut down d-men in the league for years is your comeback. also, the guy would be the best d-man on your team
GREAT comeback. - sensarmy_11

Improved every year he played?
Look at the stats again....his highest point total was his rookie year.
He definitely has potential, and I think he slots into your #2C or #3C slot provided he doesn't want too much money...Oilers are gonna need all the money they can to lock up the big4...
I think people bash SG because of what some Oiler fans feel he is worth...it wasn't long ago some fans were saying he could pull in the 8th overall pick in trade straight up...or trades for top2 d-men...whereas if a Leaf fan proposed Tyler Bozak could get a top2 dman or top10 pick in the first round in trade they would be laughed off the board...yet their stats were VERY similar last year... - BoBBeR56
Dude the eighth overall pick trade talk was echoed by Jeff Marek who is no slouch in the hockey media. He said the 'canes had specific interest in Gagner. Now, I'm not sure if he was full of it or what but it was out there...
Indeed, we have to use references and compare player stats to stats but all of a sudden the Bozak/ Gagner comparison exists in some vacuum. Who knows, if the rumor was true maybe they still like Gagner's upside as a young player. |

I said in another thread, he's never going to be as tough or physical as David Krejci, but could have a similar top end offensive output on a good team.
He's never going to be as fast as Stephen Weiss, but has similar smarts and heart.
He's probably going to be like a slightly better David Legwand in terms of production. If he sticks with the Oilers, I think he'll end up netting 50-60 points and not specifically being a liability. |

i agree with your point. gagner is a better player, RIGHT NOW. my argument was with the 2-3 idiots who seem to think that gagner is 10 times better, or >>>>>> as they put it, then turris. this is clearly not the case. the stats over the last few years show that gagner is more productive, but if you watch them both play, they are very similar players.
and yes, it's a very "inelegant" way to make his point. if i were to compare silvferberg to stamkos, that same genius would probably jump down my throat. |

I know the 8th overall pick sounds super duper fantastic before the draft, but name "Derick Pouliot" doesn't exactly make me all giddy to trade Gagner. - Zombie
Eggsactly. If there was ever an offer I bet it was Tambo saying no way. Has as much to do with the make-up of our team right now as value for value talk. |
