We should give Bernier a stupid nickname before he's even traded, that'll drive down his value |

I really hope you are joking.
This is just nonsense talk. - LA_Kings6720
He's dead serious, and I agree.
With Komisarek anchoring your D-core, and another savvy vet like, say, Jason Blake providing the spark up front, I see "easy repeat" written all over the Kings. |

Doesn't look like Vancouver fans like the idea of the Leafs pursuing Bernier instead of Luongo. - As_I_See_It
Bernier is definitely a better fit for the stage the Leafs are at. I just find it funny how Leafs fans are downplaying his value in their trade proposals.
Despite not having much experience, he's on of the most highly coveted GT prospects in the last 5 years—LA is going to want a solid return, and they'll likely get it. |

I will say though, that more then likely, gardiner will be a better player then scuds. But even then, the comparison isn't fair, because scuds is a stay at home D, and gardiner is more offensive if im correct. - Deadmau55
Yeah, comparing the 2 is definitely not smart. Schenn/Komi to Scuderi would be more apt a comparison based on style... |

Call him "Steve", and hope it catches on.
That'd do the trick. |

Similar numbers behind one of the top defensive systems in the league. He'll be as "horrific" as Reimer if we have the same defensive play as last year. - Feeling Glucky?
belfour was the last goalie who could save a puck for the Leafs.
i have no problem whatsoever if Burke is pursuing a goaltender.
will Bernier be any better than reimer? who the hell knows,
but I like our chances a lot better with two 'real deals' rather than one. |

Add Toskala challenging for the #1 spot to keep Quick on his toes, and you've got yourself a dynasty! |

Oh that's a good one. He could have a funny mask where two guys are using a corpse to stop a puck |

I like when they all congratulate each other after their "Frenzy" show. Reminds me of Trading Places when the Dukes are slapping each other on the back after cleaning up on pork bellies. - gravyface
I love the ever-expanding "Frenzy" theme days on TSN. "Draft Frenzy" "Free Agent Frenzy" "Trade Frenzy".
The best is watching those twits fill 8 hours of dead air trying to say something to make Jarko Ruutu look like the Wayne Gretzky of coveted trade bait. Then watching them move onto talking up the significance of some 7th d-man traded for future considerations when Ruutu doesn't get moved.
Everything happens away from the hoopla of July 1st and the trade deadline now. GMs are getting smarter and learning to avoid the hype by dealing early.
And surprise, surprise. Mac and Dreger can't call a damn thing when it isn't spponfed to them by other GMs after the deal is done. When these things go down in secret, they get revealed as posers.

You don't even own the rights to Toskala anymore. Typical Burke, letting valuable pieces to walk only to watch them shine on the benches of other teams |

So what we really need to ask ourselves is:
Would the addition of Bernier over, say, Luongo, cost considerably more or less?
And with one of those two having a considerably more proven track record and a cap hit that is a pretty decent steal over the medium-long term, is it really worth taking the risk that a young, and I stress the word young, goaltender develop properly in a place like toronto?
Perhaps we should play it safe as I don't think the Leafs are necessarily capable of developing a goaltender until we know we have a legit staff in front of him. |

To proclaim James Reimer as 'the real deal' at this point is nothing short of blind wish fulfillment. Or desperation. |

Bump.
Go with Bernier, I think it'll really work out! Get enough goalies with supposedly high potential and one will be sure to eventually work out... Probably. - Mr_Clean
