The Luongo idea is Stupid.A

This idea is Stupid.B

Burke should stick with Reimer/Scrivens....what's the worst that can happen? We suck and potentially pick up a franchise player?

No brainer if you ask me.

- Pen15

A: watch your derogatory remarks towards other posters

B: Burke isnt looking to go that route.. everyone damn well knows it, no matter how much we wish it werent true

I suppose it depends on if you think either Reimer or Scrivens are/could be legit starters. I dont. So for me, I feel the Leafs need to address their goaltending first and foremost.

id rather us package up some extra forward pieces we have and try to turn them into a top center or top 6 winger.

lombardi
connolly
macarthur
homosarek
franson
*possibly bozak if we get the #1c

move some of these guys and even forward prospects

colborne
ashton

if you have to.

we need to load this team up a bit and now is the time, gotta keep kessel happy and resign him, lupul needs another good season so we can resign him. id imagine if kessel and lupul have another great season we resign both and all will be well in leaf land.

Lol very true...what is he 5'11?
- celata29

He's tiny...

And he's going to a team who's coaching guru is known to be predominantly effective with tall goalies, given the style he teaches.

Think it was just the idea, not the "poster" he was referring to.

There is a long list of those goalies that have a great rookie season and then an ok sophomore season and then fall off the face of the earth. I could name one, but then I'm pretty sure I'd have over extended my welcome here

Hopefully that doesn't happen though...Leafs are becoming a team that I like to follow

- celata29

Rask hasnt proven much more than Bernier, and this will be his first big season as the #1. So im glad you didnt start barking up the tree

fair enough, but you can disagree with a post without calling it stupid..

somewhere along the lines it was someone's idea

Exactly. I don't get the addition of Seguin, minus Kessel puts us closer to a Stanley Cup thing. We would lose around 35 goals a year (unless Seguin pots that many)
- walshyleafsfan1

I don't see how it gets you to a cup now, but in the future I could. I think the trade was fair at the time because Burke overvalued his team, as do others here. But looking back how they finished it was overpayment, IMO, so don't think so. But I think if Chiarelli were to offer Seguin, Hamilton, and Knight for Kessel, Burke would say yeah.

That wasn't meant towards any poster...just that I think going after Luongo or Bernier is dumb...

And burke has so far done a lot of posturing, but no delivering. I highly doubt he goes after any unproven netminder. He's stated publicly that he's only interested in proven guys, and thus far, their price tag is thankfully too high.

I truly wonder how the Nucks will do without Luongo. Its not like the Nucks are a great defensive team. They are average at best. Schneider is going to have alot of pressure on him. Its one thing for him to perform knowing that Lu is there on the bench. Another thing if he's not, and he is strictly the go to guy.
- faceto27

Ive been saying this ALL summer!

I have two solid bets with friends that the Canucks dont improve, or even do worse without Luongo. No way a guy with 68 games total and only a few playoff games of experience carries the team to the cup. Its a lot of pressure.

And hes never played more than 34 games in one season...Im sure 60ish games + playoffs will wear him out.

That's not true. He stole Thomas' starting job in 09 and lead the league in GAA and save % and just lost the Vezina to Miller

Yeah that makes sense...I wouldn't get rid of Blacker...kind of followed up on him and I like him a lot.
- celata29

he's easily one of our top 3 D prospects. Might not have Gardiner's flair, but he's almost as good a skater, he's a hell of a lot better defensively, and he hits. Needs probably another full year in AHL or close since he lost a lot of time to injury, but he'll be getting top pairing minutes next season. Gonna be fun to watch.

I think both should at least be given a shot at it before we give up valuable assets for someone that's just as unproven as they are.

ie....I'll be very upset if we have to part with Frattin.

Yeah i agree, wouldn't quite put him up there with Garnider now, but given time I could see him close...I think he's solid

yeah i know he did.. now it becomes a potential locker room issue for lombardi

who knows how this plays out

- Dozzer

he requested a trade last season and it didn't seem to be much of a locker room issue.....

mise well offer Seguin and Hamilton - and burke would say no. Kessel is still better at this point than both players. (keep in mind Bozak is his #1c and every team knows kessel is the go to guy). Seguin is not the "go to guy" in Boston.

Jared Knight is meh. I also think Colborne is meh, so dont worry i just say it how i see it!

I agree they are not better now, but you don't think all those players will amount to a solid roster in the future, which is what the Leafs are building toward now? You guys seem, not apathetic, but ok with losing another season or two to better your team, which is respectable. I think in the future they will have more to offer than Kessel, but just my 2 cents.
