Even with a legit staff, tending the net as a starter in TO is a different animal from most other NHL cities. - triggermartin
Oh by staff I was referring to forwards.
But yeah I agree with your point.
If we can introduce a youngster in 2-3 year after Scrivens leaves and allow Lu to tutor, in a sense, and teach him about life in this spotlight, then that would be our best chance at ensuring a goaltending prospect of the future has the right upbringing |

Why is Bernier a sure shot for the future?
Like I said earlier, there's a decent enough chance he either a) doesn't even pan out as the best goalie in our system, or b) ends up backing up a goalie totally outside our current system that we bring in within the next couple years.
I'm not sold on the idea of paying a ton for a guy who could very well be a back-up here just as he was in LA. - Leeman4Gilmour
who said you would have to pay a ton? Low risk high reward in my opinion. You will have to pay more for lou. that much is obivious.

Maybe look up the word secret????
Plus I'd much rather spend my sunday morning watching Trade centre than 3 hrs of Coronation street. I behalf of my people, I apologise for that atrocity.... - lumlums
"Secret" is the way most deals get done. They work out a deal over the course of a few weeks, keep it hush-hush in case it falls through, and keep the details very informal between the higher-ups.
When you hear TSN "break" a trade, they're just reporting a done deal. Dreger calls up Nonis on the day of the deadline and asks, "Hey, you working on anything?"
And Nonis replies, "yeah, we just traded Stempniak to the Coyotes for some picks. Just faxing the paperwork now. You can make it public if you want." |

One of your brethren was on here going on about a lottery pick, Frattin (young roster player with upside), and Scrivens (young NHL backup with great AHL numbers) for Bernier. |

Yeah, everything I'm reading is speculating that Lombardi wants the moon and stars for Bernier.
I would pay a little more for Luongo, yes. You're getting a guaranteed starter who give you 35+ wins in his sleep. |

I Imagine that Lombardi would start the price off really high.
And in all fairness, there's not a lot of demand for Goalies out east.
Now, assuming that he wouldn't be kept in the west, that leaves BB to keep lowballing and let him now he won't get any love after he shafted us many times out of acquiring B. Schenn |

i don't know why they just don't let reimer and scrivens split the games and gain some experience. the leafs aren't wining the cup this year and the reverse stanley cup gets you mckinnon. if burke can "steal" him then great , if not it's not worth giving away the little that you have for him. burke (frank)ed up and there's no quick fix , he's set the team back 3 years , plenty of time for a goalie to come around. |

Oh, I meant that old as in relative, not less than 24. Only a couple of years older.
And no, given my severe lack of resemblence to him, I suspect that we had a tall, handsome milkman sometime around February 1983... |
