No but it ticks me off, because its business as usual with this organization. Its cost cutting, and pinching pennies. Make no mistake about it, the Matt Martin situation is strictly based on getting him for the cheapest possible price. This is whats most upsetting. Its constant cheap behavior..........except when my season ticket bill comes in...

Every friggen team does it this way... its the way its done!! WOW!!

Hes been having cash issues for years..........we all get that. But, you cant be cheap with the players.

This is one ownership that has been anything but cheep with the contracts they hand out.. where have you been??

Difference with JT, Hammer, etc... Martin isnt part of the core.... He is a VERY serviceable player that I hope is with us a VERY long time... but he is replaceable.

- XxNYIxX

That last line is exactly what the isles are thinking, and why im aggrevated. Dont use the term core, and then replaceable. Martin, is homegrown, and has done everything you'd want from a late 5th round pick. Let me re iterate : The NHL leader in hits for the 2011/2012 season was Matt Martin. Show some appreciation and throw him a bone. Its the right way to do things......

Really?? Cause since Yashin and DP's contracts, which contract are you referring to?

Every other signing is a value contract. Guy who has all upside with little money spent. (Excluding Roslton, who didnt even play a full year) and was only a few more than what they were paying Hunter.)

Yes he was!!! Figure it out.......read between the lines

Its being cheap for the sake of being cheap

The guy led the ENTIRE NHL IN HITS. Show him you want him. Make him WANT to play here. Its typical Islander b.s

- kindlyrick

No.. no he wasn't... he was given what the team HAS to give to retain his rights. Its the way teams do this.. its the way its been done since this system was put in place.. relax.

thats the thing...it isnt a low ball...i gotta assume this isnt the first time the islanders and MM camp are speaking about contracts...id even bet they are close to hammering out a deal. it isnt a low ball cause every gm in hockey does the same thing, its procedure. and unless were in the office when MM and Garth are talking we really have no idea where the contract talks are at....could it be a low ball? possibly, assuming matt martin found out about the QO the same way regular fans like us did. is it more likely they have been discussing contracts throughout the offseason and are already in discussion about a raise? ya, id bet on that....

Am I speakin in chinese? Im saying it shouldnt have gotten to this point. They should have signed him during the end of the season. You treat your employees well and they will want to work for you. Martin has done his part thus far, the isles have not

Ok and my point is, Martin did his part, and the islanders should have rewarded him at the end of the season. THATS how its done.

Hey Matt, hit every guy in site, and lead the league in hits, on a team with NOONE physical.......and we'll work it out at some point. Hey if we need to go to arbitration, you understand right? Please.........typical islander mismanagement

Which contract are you referring to thats not value? They're all on the low end of the players worth.......JT included. I know the team is money issues but to me, this guy is someone you reward. You dont have to give him 2 million a year, but im pretty sure the league leader in hits should get over a million a season.

Tell that to your employee when you ask him to give you everything he's got.

How many mid-level players have been REWARDED at the end of the season when it came to their upcoming RFA contracts?? Forget that how many key players have?? You are getting upset over nothing... Martin will be signed, Martin will be happy... what is the problem??

Youre missing my point, and its not worth explaining. I've already explained enough......

For a team that has trouble having guys want to play here.......this situation just adds to that.

Of course its possible. But again, the team is at the cap floor because of buyouts and Ricky D. Spend a little bit of dough on a guy who bleeds for ya. Its not that hard of a concept.
