I understand how this works, and i wasnt being clear. What im angry at, is the fact that a guy like Matt Martin, who i feel will be a piece to the puzzle, is even at this point. To me, show the guy you want him and get a deal done beforehand. When Garth wants someone, or feels they are part of his future (see Grabner, Okposo etc) deals get done. Im not saying a deal wont get done, but for heavens sake, the guy goes through a wall for you, and you are pinching pennies?? I dont expect a 5 year 10 million dollar deal, but show some respect........show him that you acknowledge what he's done.

I dont feel its just going through the motions........if they really wanted him, he'd have already had a deal.

So you don't think the Islanders want to sign Matt Martin? I respectfully disagree. The Islanders will re-sign Martin. My guess: 4 years, $5.6M.

I think its easy to hide behind the "oh this is just normal procedings" with salary arbitration. When you want someone you get a deal done.......

I know its only july 16 but I figure we are likely done as many have said. No Doan or Semin (like that would ever happen) no Andrei Kostitsyn signing ( not a huge deal I guess) I don't think we will ever see a ryan trade (too much to give up on)and I hope Gomez is only a rumor (mind you he may dish the puck well to a Bailey or KO. In the end many don't want Strome here yet and I agree...but Kabanov may be interesting I think. he could be that Semin type we want. As far fetched as many will critisize me for saying I wonder what a kid like that may do on the top line...flashy and not shy with being as creative as possible...plus the limelight may be enough to give him the desire to break out...I say its our turn for one of our own in for rookie of the year..why not !!!! ok guys/girls..be gentle...lol

Where's the fire? Its July 17. Training camp doesn't open for two months (if there isn't a lockout first). There's a new CBA on the verge of being negotiated and hopefully signed before the season starts. I can't believe you're as offended by the Martin contract situation as you appear to be in your posts. It is not offensive that the Isles tendered an RFA with a qualifying offer to retain his rights.

Think Kindly's point is about sending a message to Martin by getting out in front of the process and making his signing an early priority. Sounds reasonable...you might as well really make the guy feel like he's a critical part of the team by doing right by him well before league deadlines say you have to. But then again, we don't know how the private conversations have gone, either. Hopefully management has already had many discussions with Martin and his agent and they're already close and on the same page...but just needed a bit more time and so went through with this formality.

I'll use it in a sentence:

"Dipietro hit the ice after Johnson knocked him out with one punch"

No but it ticks me off, because its business as usual with this organization. Its cost cutting, and pinching pennies. Make no mistake about it, the Matt Martin situation is strictly based on getting him for the cheapest possible price. This is whats most upsetting. Its constant cheap behavior..........except when my season ticket bill comes in...

I personally feel that Wang is running out of cash.. He is having issues with cash flow and it could be an issue.

hamonic is second most important guy on roster after DP. i think we all agree on that.

as for Martin, while he may not have best hands he plays hard and consistenly looking to improve.

he could be the next clark gillies if he keeps at it. I would definately try him up on first line with Tavares for few game and see what he can do.

As for signing him. hey should give him some Decent money and long term deal.

Hey, I agree. they are going for the cheapest deal possible. Most orgnaizations would. I think most other organizations around hockey would be handling the Martin thing the same way. Its a negotiation with a player that doens't have a lot of leverage. He's an RFA. While I agree that he's an important piece to this team going forward, he probably wouldn't have the same value to other organizations around hockey that he has to the Isles. The first offer in a negotiation is always the floor. You can't go backwards from the first offer. So why make the first offer so high?

I'm not one of Snow's Kool-Aid drinking unequivocal supporters, but I can't find fault with this initial Q.O. to Martin, just like I find no fault with Martin in rejecting it. Wishart, on the other hand, is another story. That guy is lucky to be in pro hockey. I can't believe he turned down his Q.O.

Agreed with Wishart.....

As for Martin......to me, you wanna preach about a tight young core, and all that. Well, put up or shut up (to Snow not you). Again, im not saying overpay for the kid, but man.......for a team with little to know heart and soul players, the kid does everything he's asked. To me, it sets a tone, that hey we want you guys to battle, and if you do, you'll get rewarded. Otherwise, this happens..........hey Martin, finish every check, and lead the league in hits, and when the seasons over we're gonna low ball you. But, hey its just going through the motions, we really do want you....

Not ones you would like to keep. He needs to work the core that he does want to keep. Make sure they are on the same page and stick around.

Can you imagine if you guys lost JT at the end of his contract, with nothing back..It would really hurt the club. Just like it really hurt the Devils to get nothing in return for Parise.

Theres obviously a difference between Tavares and Martin. Its exactly my point. They would never let it get to that point with Tavares, because they want him. This situation with Martin screams........take him or leave him to me. If you really want him, you sign him. Bottom line. Im not sayin he wont get a deal done before camp.........but again, for a guy who lead the league in hits, on a team with ZEROOOOOO physicality, show him a thank you.

Its how it works when you're low balling. How about realizing what Martin brings to this club and coming in off the bat with a better deal on the table. The only reason to go to arbitration is because the isles were low balling from the start.

Difference with JT, Hammer, etc... Martin isnt part of the core.... He is a VERY serviceable player that I hope is with us a VERY long time... but he is replaceable.
