Youre talking about a million dollar player........his contract should have no bearing on the new CBA. This is strictly Snow trying to squeeze him.... - kindlyrick
I'm not sure it has anything to do with the CBA but it's plausible that the Isles may have slowed down their negotiations based on it. It's also plausible that the isles offered him a million per season and he turned it down so they qualified him to get more time to work something out. We simply don't know. I'm not about to jump to conclusions on either side at this stage but I'm comfortable that no one is spitting nails over the QO. |

Just so we're clear the next player had 80 less hits.......its a big deal in the NHL to play that style night in and night out. Sorry but you're overthinking this with your scenarios. Hitting in the NHL is a major part of the game. - kindlyrick
i agree and some can even make a case that matt martin was the most efficient and consistent player on the team...jt and th included
(but i still dont agree that its a big deal he was offered a QO) |

The latter is what prob happened. The isles as usual are trying to get the most bang for their buck.........Martin said no thanks. So we go from here. This is why i was all up in arms. I felt that they should have been more proactive last season in getting this done.
Dont think for one second this is just going through the motions. He's had contract issues with this team before. He brings more to the table than hits. The isles are trying to low ball him.......which is why my tits fell out of my bra |

Actually, as an independant in this discussion; some times throwing a hit is a bad thing. It can take you out of a play and leave you in a very poor defensive position. Timely hits is the stat that I would like to lead my team in. That and power play time..
just sayin, great to throw the hits, but in his 10-11 minutes a game, seems like that is all he is getting done, with those hits, how bad is his +/-? - bixll
WOW!!!! a hockey comment!!! i spoke too soon....
although i think the +/- stat is as important to hockey as the W/L for a pitcher in baseball. both are useless and totally overrated. |

I actually do believe it's just trying to go through the motions. I also have no problem with the idea of low-balling a player. The Isles got very decent contracts with guys like Moulson, Grabs, Frans, Tavares and AMAC. Those contracts will ultimately put this team in fantastic financial footing once (if) they're competitive. Cap management is important, even for a team presently way below the cap. Martin will get his number and the Isles will have their guy. 3rd line bangers don't get insulted by QO's. All of these guys know it's a business and will wait for the end result. |

Ya wanna reword that?
I don't question Martin's drive/competitiveness. However, leading the league in hits does not still make him a 'key piece' to the teams future that they "must' retain. There are lots of players in the "A" who can do the same role. It's Martin's potential to be able to do things outside of that role that make him worth keeping. That said, there are lots of guys in the NHL that could fill his role. - keaner17
maybe i wasnt clear- (kindly i was agreeing with you)- MM is a replaceable player and should NOT be untouchable however his position and what he brings to the table isnt as simple as putting someone else in his spot (like the original post i responded to), and i severely disagree that its the easier spot on the roster to replace. |

Lets say Nassau gets it together. Will he spend money on this team or continue to spend at the floor? If thats the case move to Brooklyn - mighty13duck[/quote
Let's think face fact:
1. CBA - Charles is not prepared to sit out another season as owner of the Islanders with more responsibilities towards the Coliseum then he had in 2004/2005 with less revenue streams.
2. He wants to be a hero to Long Islander's not a villian that moved the team out of Nassau.
He is stuck between a rock and a hard place to no fault of his, but his hour glass is just about empty. Interesting to see what is going to happen.
