The color is incredible, the action on ice and in the crowd is also incredible. Amazing photo, IMO.

If this game were all about stats, Derek Roy would still be here right now.

Interesting stuff, but you failed to counter the argument about the team's record. The fact is this team was miles better in the win column with Ehrhoff in the lineup than it was without it. You can't say that about any other defenseman on this team. Is Ehrhoff a shutdown d-man? No, we all knew this, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't make his team better. A good defenseman can be effective not only by defending in the traditional sense, but also by being able to get the puck out of the defensive zone very effectively. It's what made Brian Campbell so valuable. Ehrhoff's offensive zone time was in large part because he did a great job of getting the puck, and keeping the puck out of the zone. The best way to defend against a team is to not have to defend at all. Ehrhoff excelled at that.

I don't care what anyone says, a picture taken with real film will always be superior to digital. It just is. It seems to have more depth and character.

- spasmatic13

no, use 2 of the 3

I could care less if myers is the secondary d man on first unit or leading the second unit

LOVE those old hockey photos. They have so much more character and grittiness to them than today's photos.

The players just went out and played. Didn't blame it on bad ice, bad equipment, make excuses.

If they lost "Can't win them all" I want that back. Im not as "experienced" as others (Polite way of say yall is older)
Early- mid 90's hockey is what made me fall in love with the game.

Look man, those stats take into consideration a bunch of stuff that the average fan doesnt notice or pay attention to, like: the teams plus minus, shots against/for when a certain player is not on the ice. Combine that with his quality of competition, and quality of teammates, his off zone starts and off zone finishes, and its quite CLEAR -- Sekera was our best defenseman.

Ehrhoff had the most amount of giveaways. For someone who is toted as a "our best puck mover" thats not really fitting.

Ehrhoff was solid for us last year. But our record wasnt good with Ehrhoff because he provided the quality of defense that Sekera did. Ehrhoff was able to help our team score more when he was there. Which is more or less what we got him for. Now, if he can learn to keep more of his shots on target, hed be more effective.

oh ok gotcha. i wasnt trying to be an a$$ i just misuderstood. i like the idea of myers and ehrhoff on the 1st PP because it gives you the option to blast the 1timer from either side and keep a team off balance.

i think that was ehrhoffs problem a lot last year. everyone knew the other d man would pass and he'd shoot. with both of them i think teams leave more open looks since they wont be able to only load up on hoff's shooting lane

Those stats pretty much proved that Sekera is our best defensman when it comes to not allowing the other team shots, and having more puck possession. Go back and read through, about halfway down when you get to corsi stat.

What exactly determines this though? Isn't that fairly subjective? There's no formula that's cut and dry.

to make their pp work at a high level, both d men need to fire the puck IMO

bring back scott to coach the pp

All those stats show is that Sekera was not as bad as the wrap he gets, which I never disputed in the first place. It doesn't show, one way or the other, that he was a better defenseman than Ehrhoff. The win column shows that. The best way to show how player's value is to look at the team when he's not playing. Ehrhoff beats Sekera in that department. It's why Roy is expendable. It's also why I may have inadvertently started another Ryan Miller flame war.
