to anyone that has any insight...if we dont get doan is leino pegged to be the 3rd line center? and HOMER what do the sabres brass think about grigor and girgensons thus far
- HAMgerber

Doan or no Doan, Lenio is the front runner for 3rd line center. There would have to be a deal made or Grigorenko blows their socks off in camp.

They think Grig is a typilal russian, skilled but likes to dangle to much...girgensons is just a solid player but a year away

Hypothetical lines if we get Doan (for fun)

Hodgson with Vanek and Doan or Pominville?
Ennis with Stafford and Doan or Pominville?
? with Leino and Foligno/Ott?
McCormick with Kaleta and Gerbe/Foligno/Ott?

I think Pominville stays on first line. I think Doan is the winger on the 2nd line. I dont care how many people say Ott is not a Center, in this scenario he centers Leino and Foligno. Gerbe, McCormick, Kaleta on the 4th line.

If we sign Doan, could you see a Vanek for Stastny swap?

Are we holding out on Grigorenko/Girgensons to Center that 3rd line?

Lets hear your thoughts.

- CLoSkills

I'd go...
Vanek-Hodgson-DOAN
Foligno-Ennis-Stafford
Ott-(??????)-Pominville
Kaleta-Gerbe-Tropp

Hopefully gerbe can play center, I'd rather have those 3 out there than McCormick
For 3rd line center, if Grigorenko or Girgensons isn't ready,
I'd look to sign Arnott or maybe trade for someone like Dubinsky, who can play center till one of the kids are ready n then shift to the wing

If we put Dubinsky between Ott n Pominville,
That would be a GREAT line to match up against other teams' top lines IMO

My plan also has us somehow getting rid of Leino

Signing Doan would give us a lot of options.

Pre Doan
Vanek-Hodgson-Pominville
Foligno-Ennis-Staff
Leino-Z-Ott
Kaleta-Adam/Mccormick-Tropp

Myers-Ehrhoff
Leopold-McNabb
Regher-Sekera

Post Doan + Trade for Stastny(Staff+Gerbe+Sekera)
Vanek-Stastny-Pominville
Foligno-Ennis-Doan
Leino-Hodgson-Ott
Kaleta-Z/Mccormick-Tropp

Myers-Ehrhoff
Leopold-McNabb
Regher-Pardy/Weber/Sulzer

Quite honestly I think it's Doan or bust for us now as far as other moves go. To me in a lot of these situations I think Gerbe may be the odd man out.

Love the effort, but just does not have a fit on this team right now. Hate to see him go cause the kid can play.

Not sure how Doan feels about Lindy, But Lindy was running the defense for Team Canada anyway.......I do know Lindy really likes Doan though.

Thanks for the insight, much appreciated.

If we sign Doan and its the 4 year 30M deal, who's for it?

I'll start.............Yes

Is that more than he deserves, sure is. BUT, he is a player that we need in a bad way and this organization and Darcy has been critized time and again for not being agressive enough, so I for one will nt critize them for being agressive, even it may be to agressive.

Agreed I love that Gerbe brings it every night but I think if we do make another trade that Gerbe will be involved.

Definite YES. I'm biased though because Doan is my favorite captain in hockey always loved his game but yeah I think he still has plenty of game left in him even at 35... I'm all for it

They are really thinking of trying Leino at center again?
That seemed to be kind of a disaster last year
And who knows if it's true,
But supposedly Leino asked to be moved back to the wing

Its Leino by default, not choice. I think he does want to play wing, yes.

Thanks

And yeah I was of the opinion that Grigor has a better chance to make the team out of the gate despite everyone losing their minds over girgensons. Just too young he will be a very solid player but hes gotta get a little bit bigger (yeah im aware that Lindy said he has a "man body") but during the scrimmage I saw him get tossed on more than one occasion

Any word on what they think of a couple of other prospects?

ps I think leino is ready for a 45 pt season. No way he embarrasses himself again like last season and if he does hes gone for 2013-2014

HELL YES...
Agree with everything you said...
Plus...
I'd think it gives us some legitimacy in the eyes of other possible free agents in the future
If we had Doan on our roster, I bet Parise would've given us A LOT better of a look

You will be shocked Homer!

I say yes also, Uncle Terry has the $$ and wants to win a Cup! If he can pull this off (win a Stanley Cup) in a year or two, who cares about Doan's contract in 3-4 years.

I am all for it. Sure, it's a lot of money, but the intangibles that he brings would be worth it. Doan would provide a spark in that locker room that we haven't seen since Peca was wearing the C.
