Honestly I don't know what these Gm's that have these star players expect. Sounds like all the talks are dead because Gm's are simply asking too much for guys.

It's a waiting game at this point. They're holding out for the best deal and it's likely to come closer to when the season starts, if it starts with CBA negotiations happening...

I don't know that it gets any better to be honest.

That doesn't make any sense though.

If Weber had any interest in signing with us on those terms (10 years, 80 million), all we'd have to give up is four 1sts.

If he doesn't want to sign an offer sheet with us, then he wouldn't want to sign a contract with us. It's that simple

On the surface you're right in terms of the value of what's being traded, it doesn't make sense, but there are other factors at play.
For one thing NSH would match, so to avoid that we'd have to wait til next year and I'll bet he's looking to sign a big fat long term deal before the CBA is hammered out.

Pressure to make the playoffs when your competition is improving is a powerful motivator. We keep hearing 'wait for the dominos to fall'... well, they haven't really all fallen yet right? a few biggies moved or signed, but there's still some big players that could be moved. Once a few go, the desperation will kick in

If Tambs gave up anything in a trade for Weber that even exceeded the value of four 1sts, I'd be pissed. Nashville matching be damned. Now they've got an 80 million dollar contract they can't afford, and in a year's time they'll be selling him for a lot less than what they're asking for now.

I'm just saying if Poile thinks he's being coy and cutting down on the chance of an offer sheet, he's kidding himself.

You're forgetting that Nashville can match. If Weber wants out of Nashville, signing a long term offer sheet would be the worst mistake he could make.

I'd give up the entire team except the fantastic four to get Weber.

It's not like they have anyone over a barrel. Locker room chemistry is everything, and I can't remember the last time a star asked for a trade and wasn't granted one very quickly. If he really wants out he can ask for a trade and the whole thing backfires on Nashville.

I take this "asking price" as either an untrue rumour or an opening bid. I doubt very much he'll fetch much more than RFA compensation through a trade.

I don't think Weber is averse to coming back to Nashville or else he'd already have demanded a trade.

He could state tomorrow "I've played my last game for the Nashville Predators" and suddenly their two top 6 forwards, top 4 d, two prospects and two 1sts asking price would be slashed in half. I'm just saying it's a dangerous game they're playing.

The Oilers have always done things a little differently. Must be echoes of Sather. Then again, Souray is/was not the same level of star that Weber is.

We tried it both ways and it didn't work. Heck even moving a player when it was known that he wanted out back fired in Lubo. Well for now anyway.

I think part of the problem is he probably doesn't sign long-term at this point with NSH. Why would he? He never did when things looked up, so why would he now when Suter, Tits and Radulov left in some sort of fashion. That and they are paying a 4th line center 2nd line money.

Now I could see him signing a one year deal tomorrow, but I have my doubts that Poille would agree to this and if he did I'd suspect Weber is packing his bags.

If he signs a one year deal it probably hurts his trade value as well. That means he's definitely planning on leaving Nashville.

If I had to guess, this asking price is an EK fabrication.

I don't know what the asking price would be, the other issue is the NHL's new stance on contract lengths. Maybe Weber says (frank) it and signs a 10 year deal with whoever before the new CBA takes over. Then again 10 year deals don't mean you are stuck with that team for 10 years.

The guy has shown the ability to be loyal, but like Nash maybe the time has come. Can he be just as loyal to another team?

So the ask for Weber is something like:
2 top 6 forwards
1 top 4 Dman
2 prospects
2 1st rounders

I'd offer:
Hemsky
Pajaarvi
Klefbom
Gernat or Musil
2 1sts (maybe just one)

Assumes Weber is signed to 10 year ~80 mil contract.
Any takers?

I'd do Hall, Hemsky, Klefbom, and a 1st.

Hall = Injury case
Hemsky = Injury case
Klefbom = unproven in North America
1st founder would be a later pick with Weber in the line up.

If we add Weber's contract, we'd lose one of Hall, Ebs, Nuge or Yaks come contract time anyway, might as well cut one loose to get the number 1 D-Man that we desperately need.

Hall is a leader on the team, but Weber would replace that him job that capacity instantly. He'd probably contribute more points as well.

Besides, I didn't realize this was an application for a GM position.
