I would pretty much trade any 3 players/top tier prospects not named Tavares, and 3 first round draft picks for Shea Weber, provided he'd be willing to sign a long term mega deal to stay with my team....and yes, he most certainly IS THAT good. Enough said.. |

because preds would match any offer sheet. if weber wants to leave, he'll go via trade. - sensnucksnocups
Not nessesarily true. If Poile knows he wants out, he will not match and take the picks. I would see someone doing a huge long term offer sheet with lots of up front money and giving up the picks. (13 year 130 mill with 50 of it in the first 3 years) The trade demand that Ek has posted is absolutely ridiculous and no one would do that.

Hemsky and Pajaarvi aren't top 6
EDM top 6 is
Hall - RNH - Eberle
Yaks - Gagner - Smyth
no-one would want Smyth, the way he complained going back to EDM. And Gagner wouldn't really be wanted, so you'd have to give up two of Hall, RNH, Eberle, and Yaks.
Top 4 D, haha, you don't really have any.
two TOP prospects
AND
two firsts (which will be incredibly high considering two of Hall, RNH, Yaks, or Eberle, were moved out) - ILoveLamp

Preds and Weber just extended the deadline for Weber to accept his qualifying offer until Aug. 1. If any such deadline actually exists, I would imagine it would be around that time. - Predaceous
So on one hand you are saying they extended the deadline, on the other hand you are guessing that there may be a deadline around that date.... |

According your column, you quoted "2 top 6 forwards, 1 top 4 defender, 2 top flight prospects, and at least 2 first round draft picks... " to acquire Shea Weber.
Although the package for Weber will be big, I don't believe any team is willing to give that much for Weber. As a Rangers fan, I would like to Shea Weber in a Ranger uniform and they do have the talent (without Weber) to be considered a Stanley Cup challenger. Regardless, adding Weber would certainly give them that PP QB that they have lacked since Brian Leetch. Not to mention his toughness on the Blue line. With that being said; I think a fair package for Weber would be Marc Staal, Brandon Dubinsky, Carl Hagelin and a 2013 1st and 3rd round picks. I can't see any team offering and giving away 2 top 6 forwards, 1 top 4 d-man, 2 top prospects and 2 1st round picks. |

Are the teams that can put together strong packages without totally wiping out their prospect pool. - spatso
I would be furious if Tambs offered anything close to that for Weber.
That Weber framework is worse than the NHL's first offer on the new CBA. And like that, expect this offer to come down, big time. |

As much as I'd love to see Weber in a Habs jersey (providing he'd want to sign here), I'm not sure I could stomach the gutting the team would take in order to get it done. I don't think it's going to be worth it long run if anyone pays what it's expected to take. |

No, read what I quoted and was responding to. Ek said there would probably be a deadline around Thurs or Fri. I'm contesting that because of the Aug. 1 extension. If the deadline for a trade that EK proposed actually existed, it would be around Aug 1 moreso than this Thurs or Fri.
You see the difference between a deadline for a trade and a deadline to accept a qualifying offer or do I need to walk you through that too? |

I, for one, would like to see Weber stay with the Preds (as much as I'd like to have him on the Canes, it's not gonna happen). This guy's one of my favorite players and it seems like he got kinda screwed with Suter leaving Nashville. I'd like to see the Preds really make an effort to build a solid team around him. Nashville's a classy organization, and I'd hate to see them suffer the loss of someone like Weber. So hopefully he stays, Nashville gets some good offensive players, and they can contend for a Cup. They deserve it. Can't wait to see Weber lay out Suter when Nashville goes to Minnesota (or vice versa). - caneschamp07
I think he was going to get screwed one way or the other if you're referring to Suter leaving. Even if Suter would have re-signed I don't think Nashville was going to tie up over $200 million in 2 defensmen. I could be wrong, but say they would have been willing to match the Wild's offer and he stays, Weber is more than likely going to be looking for over $100 million for himself. That's a lot of money to have tied up in one D pairing. Especially when you already have one of the best goalies in the league in Rinne.

Wild couldn't afford to give up that much unless they were going to turn around and trade Parise and Suter. Other than that, the Wild's biggest problem last season was depth. |

Not that they couldn't put together a package, but Heatley is a problem child and PMB is an injury waiting to happen. You've got Setoguchi too though |

Doesn't it matter where Weber wants to play?
A team can only give up those assets IF they know he'll sign there long term. If they're not assured of a long term deal, all they're doing is trading places with Nashville... Counting down the minutes until he's a UFA and keeping your fingers crossed.
Weber has to man up and let Nashville know what he's thinking. Otherwise, he's a one year rental. |

I would assume if Nashville was looking at accepting an offer they'd let the team talk to Weber and his agent and have a deal in place before they actually pulled the trigger. |

that's what i mean though. weber's basically a UFA right now. he has to decide where he wants to play and then let nashville work out a deal.
by delaying things, he's actually making his own situation worse. |
