just curious.
Kovalchuk was an all-star forward who had scored 187 in 4 seasons prior to being traded. An average of 47 goals/season. Unreal!!
He was traded for a d man, a rookie forward, a prospect, and a 1st.
That's just to show how ridiculous this asking price is.

I personally don't want to see the Flyers give up what it will take (talking In Lindros numbers) to get Weber no matter how great of a dman he is. I just don't think they have the depth outside of the NHL to do that. |

Exactly, what team has that much depth where they could afford to? Edmonton, maybe? They're pretty much the only team that can afford to give up that kind of talent along with prospects and 2 picks for a D man. But as you eluded to, any team willing to compromise their future success for one player IS insane. |

I'm pretty confident the Kings wont be exploring this... Would it be nice to have Weber? Sure, Weber and Doughty paired together would be pretty scary... Are they willing to pay the price? Not even close, they have the defensive depth they need/want....
Nobody is going to give up that much for Weber, that would just set you back years. |

how in the world would the Flyers be able to compete for the cup with what is left? |

You mention Montreal and I guess you have to..........for the hits but seriously does Weber make Montreal a contender?
Why would Montreal give up what you say is the asking price of a Two top six forwards, top 4 D-man, 2 first rounders and 2 young prospect.
So using this, Montreal would have to give up the following:
One of Subban Markov or Gorges -
Two of Plekanec, Cole, Pacioretty, Gionta, Desharnais
Two of - Tinordi, Beaulieu, Galchenyuk, Leblanc
Two first round picks
------
For arguments sake I'll pick from the list above what I feel are the worst players from the list.
Gorges
Gionta
Desharnais
Leblanc
Beaulieu
1st 2013
1st 2014
Not sure losing those players and getting Weber makes Montreal a better team short term let alone long term.
LOL.......Any team willing to give up that much is freaking crazy and stupid.....Basically Weber comes in and weakens your team right off the bat!
EK...Give your head a shake!

I, for one, would like to see Weber stay with the Preds (as much as I'd like to have him on the Canes, it's not gonna happen). This guy's one of my favorite players and it seems like he got kinda screwed with Suter leaving Nashville. I'd like to see the Preds really make an effort to build a solid team around him. Nashville's a classy organization, and I'd hate to see them suffer the loss of someone like Weber. So hopefully he stays, Nashville gets some good offensive players, and they can contend for a Cup. They deserve it. Can't wait to see Weber lay out Suter when Nashville goes to Minnesota (or vice versa). |

Hemsky and Pajaarvi aren't top 6
EDM top 6 is
Hall - RNH - Eberle
Yaks - Gagner - Smyth
no-one would want Smyth, the way he complained going back to EDM. And Gagner wouldn't really be wanted, so you'd have to give up two of Hall, RNH, Eberle, and Yaks.
Top 4 D, haha, you don't really have any.
two TOP prospects
AND
two firsts (which will be incredibly high considering two of Hall, RNH, Yaks, or Eberle, were moved out) |

This may also be the last time a team can sign a player to a disproportionately front-loaded contract for extended term. I think Bettman is serious about legitimizing the standard player contract going forward. If you had to offer Weber $13M/yr over six, that's a lot different than, say, 14 years at an average of $8-9M. A team would just have to hope that the NHL doesn't strike the deal down, like they did Kovalchuk, but repeatedly. |

Lol. yup, just found it. 6 players and a pick.
and, Lindros, although good, won nothing in his career, while many of the players traded to Quebec (later the Avs) helped win Colorado a Stanley Cup.
