It does help. But the NFL shares revenue so that teams can spend to the cap to keep stars. If a star player leaves a NFL team its usually not because his old team couldn't afford to keep him...they might be cap strapped, but not unable to pay him

A lot of people disagree but the way the NFL does its contracts is probably the best system. These guaranteed contracts kill the cap. I would love for every sport to go with the guaranteed money (signing bonus) and still give the team the option to cut the player three years down the road. That player is still getting its guaranteed money just not the entire salary of the contract. It also allows that player to become a free agent again.

That would be a good system if all of the players had the same talent level. How do you go about determining profit sharing...Why should giroux get the same level as as a thrid fourth line player. I would not want to see what the accounting on that would look like.

The better the player, the higher the salary so I don't think profit sharing among players should be determined by skill. If Mike Rupp plays 82 games and Claude Giroux plays 82 games, then why should G get I higher percentage of the profits? I think this idea would be better done on a games played basis more than anything.

just check and see if he gets a bonus for playing so many games then that will give you the number he plays.

About 6. Which is fine. Eli gets up, and plays at a higher level after getting hit. He took a pounding in the NFC Championship game in SF. He's never missed a game due to injury in his career. He's started I believe 119 straight.

The NFL gives more guaranted money upfront which is why players sign those deals. The length and actually contract itself means nothing which is why guys want the guaranteed money in their signing bonuses. The players are still being compensated for it.

Two sided coin. What about a GM that hits right and the player wants to redo his deal bc he feels he outplayed the contract?

Let's be honest. Anaheim sucks. They need to rebuild. I would argue that the Flyers are built to win now. Trading Read, Gus and a 1st could make sense for both teams. I don't think anyone is saying that a 1st round pick is not valuable.

I think what people are saying is that they would sacrifice a 1st round pick because we are built to win now and that immediately Bobby Ryan enhances the 2012-2013 Flyers chances of winning more than Read and Gus. I find this a very tough position to argue.

I was talking about ONE specific game. The 49ers game. The Giants deserved to win the championship. I'm just saying that Williams basically gave them the game. Eli did squat against the 49ers defense. Those two turnovers inside their own 30 yard line were the difference. Not taking credit away from Eli (as overall player) or the Giants they won the Super Bowl.
