Mike Green has agreed to a three-year/$18.25 million contract extension with the Washington Capitals. Green will make $6 million in each of the next two seasons and $6.25 million in 2014-15. The Capitals are certainly taking a risk here given that Green is coming off back-to-back injury-riddled, disappointing campaigns. That being said, when he's at his best, he's one of the most productive offensive defensemen in the league.

Wow obviously the are paying the pre-2010-11 Mike Green this kind of money. The system they play in Washington these days is a assassin of Green's style.

Matt Carle for 6 years 5.5M AAV or Green for 3 years 6M AAV ?

Not that Green was an unrestricted free agent but which would you rather have on your team?

Now that makes sense. Except for the Anaheim sucking part. Saying all we'd really be giving up is Read, because of when the first round pick is going to be ready to play, or where Gutafsson winds up playing. Doesn't make sense.

Edit - they sucked bad.

Thanks for the informative and no-stone-left-unturned analysis of the camp.

Chase Hatcher and Trevor van Riemsdyk also had very solid second scrimmage games, and Greg Coburn quietly had a solid performance while keeping his game very simple. TVR, who is a defenseman, looked particularly good moving the puck.

I only saw the first period and a part of the second, but TVR's puck movement was exceptional. I agree that he looked good corralling it and moving it up ice - or even across ice to the far wing.

Wish I could've stuck around longer to see some more of the familiar faces from here and Twitter.

I was talking about ONE specific game. The 49ers game. The Giants deserved to win the championship. I'm just saying that Williams basically gave them the game. Eli did squat against the 49ers defense. Those two turnovers inside their own 30 yard line were the difference. Not taking credit away from Eli (as overall player) or the Giants they won the Super Bowl.

There is zero doubt about what you are saying. The 49ers outplayed the Giants with the exception of the backup returner.

I guess you can't say the Giants didn't deserve to win, b/c special teams are part of the game. But maybe (semantics aside) you can say they didn't earn the win.

Any way you look it, the Giants won again. As we know with most sports, it takes getting hot, luck, healthy players, etc.

there's a better chance of three consecutive pages of intelligent discourse here, than there is of losing an entire season.

Me to. Green has been ripped for playing no defense at all. I still think its wise to have a player like Green at the point. Having a threat from the point is something the Flyers lack imo. If you have a nice balance of players on defense its okay to have a player like Green.

His health would be a huge concern for me. He's only ever played 82 games once and never more than 75 in any other year. He's only played 81 games the last two years and has tallied a mere 31 points compared to the three previous years in which he played 225 games and recorded 205 points.
