Yeah, that was a bad move acquiring that guy. Glad we were able to get a first from Philly (which turned into Biggs, no?) for him, but he was clearly disinterested and even alluded from the get-go that his heart was still with CHI after winning the cup.

He'll do well in FLA: no pressure, lots of ice-time, cool blonde highlights in his wavy surfer hair.

yeah, he didnt want to play here.. that was pretty obvious

Which roster would you rather have today?

Really difficult job he's had assembling that roster

was the Modin deal really bad?

A 3rd liner for a 3rd pairing d-man and a 5th....

Maybe i'm missing something

- cor99

Modin was not a 3rd liner in Tampa. he put a few 30-goal seasons. i think it ties into the "never having good wingers for Sundin." here was a good winger and fellow Swede and the Leafs dealt him for a depth D.

He was a mediocre player in Toronto though: for every player that "turns it around" on a new team, there's two that don't. Bad trade in hindsight, but nothing you can do about it (except write about it 10 years later in a blog I guess?)

fair enough. you never know if he would have developed into that player in Toronto. but did he ever get a real shot to play with Sundin? i assume in TB he spent a lot of time riding shotgun with Lecavalier and Richards.

And that's because tambo is better or because he picks first overall every year.... You know it's true

Versteeg would have worked out fine, had the leafs properly used him. He's not a 1st line guy. The media, fans expected too much from him.

Pretty much every game he was moved between the 3 lines...he should have just stayed on the 2nd and been giving a chance to adjust.
But it doesn't matter now, it's all worked out for him, fun in the sun, he's scoring again, the leafs got a late first for him....water under the bridge now.
