Exactly.

Should also point out the season before Selanne has 80 points.

Yeah, but you know how everyone pins goalies against eachother in series
- celata29

Yeah. It's silly.

No, not WITH Gretzky lol. In the same Era as Gretzky, not same team
- Domaju

I know - I followed Gretz from day 1 til his last game. Was severely pissed at time when he lost out to Marcel for 1st scoring title but glad now Marcel won 1.

i guess holding a bunch of records means he's not that good, I'm sure a lot of goalies can do that

What about in low scoring series though when both goalies are dominating? Then i can see it not being silly, because whoever makes the first mistake loses

When I used to watch him play at the Gardens, I wouldn't take my eyes off him when he was on the ice. I didn't care where the puck was - just keep watching Gretzky.

I now do that with Crosby.

Put them all in their prime and Hasek is clearly the best.
- robin_steele264

I'll be honest, I don't know much about Hasek. I know of Roy because he's talked about a lot. Marty I've watched a lot more.

Hasek is easily in the top 3 for me. But not seeing him and Roy play very much makes it hard to judge. So I'm going based off of what I've seen Marty capable of doing, combined with his career shutouts and wins records.

I guess. But again, unless they switch nets and play against both teams, it's hard to judge IMO.

he scored 76 goals as a rookie, id say its a huge drop off compared to back in the day.
- big_dion

Yes, he never came close to that again, but he's still well over a ppg player well into the new era hockey.

Fair enough...but it's more feasable in that situation to pin goalies against eachother wouldn't you agree? Not necessarily that it's completely fair, but more so?

I remember my dad calling me into the basement to watch him sign his contract at centre ice.

I had no idea who he was, but my dad said that he was going to be the next Bobby Orr.

I didn't really understand that, either.

And remember: it was a personal services contract, not a hockey contract.

dominant may be too strong of a word, but yes, i agree he would still be a great player, he just wouldnt be getting 200 points in a season, and really, gretzky is a bit different...as someone mentioned before, he wasnt often hit, and that wasnt because you couldnt lay him out, it was moreso, mcsorley would end your life, or another beas.

gretzky would struggle a bit more just because his size, he wasnt ever a super fast skater, he just had the best hands/vision of all time. he would draw 3 players to him, make a move and then make a PERFECT pass and it would get tapped in.

he was the best player at making space that ive ever seen.

- big_dion

True, he wouldn't be putting up 200 point seasons, but I'd say he still be putting up 130+ point seasons.

i think gretzky left the NHL when he was no longer the best player and didnt stand out like he used to, he wanted to leave as the best.

kinda like how seinfeld ended and it could have went a few more seasons easily!

I don't hate Hasek, I don't really hate any goalies. I don't like Roy, and I'm not huge on Hasek but I can admit they are hands down 2 of the best ever on the ice.
