I saw Steve Shutt, interviewed on OTR. Landsberg asked him where he would fit on the current habs roster. He flat out stated that he could not make the habs of today. And, a lot of them would not..Too small..

Sorry, todays players are bigger, stronger ( for sure ) faster. More dedicated to the sport, and they have had years of watching and learning to improve..

- bixll

And if he had this training? Steve Shutt isnt and never was exactly the be all and end all of hockey. Guys like Mario, Orr, and Lemieux were simply too good to not rule in any era. The end.

Gretzky wouldn't put up 200pts with today's goaltending/team defense.

The flaw in this argument is that Shutt would be bigger and faster if he lived today due to genetic evolution and the Big Mac...

Todays player takes better care of themselves. They are also, bigger and stronger.. that is not a flaw in an arguement, it is a fact on average. No doubt thsat there were some strong guys..Tim Horton for one, was a monster. Tim Kerr was a monster..But, on average, the kids today are just bigger and faster..

I don't think so. He was only 37 and still putting up a point per game. He probably could have kept playing if he wanted too.
- Domaju

So why go out in a way where a whole new generation saw you play as a mediocre player, when you were arguably the best ever, kinda like Mario did.

...and watch roberts train, or mma style training a lot of guys use.....it's all back to basics.
the machinery and trickery of the 80's and 90's is bunk.

bobby hull bailed hay and worked like a dog on a farm all summer....came to camp ripped.

not a chance in hell.

but if you toss Crosby into the NHL when gretzky was lighting it up, id bet $ Crosby's numbers were close to the same, posssibly better.

I'm just saying that if they grew up in this day and age, chances are they'd be bigger and stronger as well...

You're toughness argument is off base I think. The Broad Street Bullies would still intimidate any team around today. Your speed argument is reasonable though.
- maverickJ

they would be playing two men down and a short bench every game and would lose horribly.

Shutt is in the Hall of Fame, what would he know..

Anyway, I was speaking as an average, not the best players of all time..
