I don't think that's what he's saying. I think he means that Weber has asked to be traded, with his rights to some team. The Flyers have been trying to cut a deal but grew frustrated, hence they made an offer sheet. And because Weber wanted out, the Preds don't match.

Have very little feeling this is what the case is though (referring to Weber wanting out, he loves Nashville)

- 1goalLordStanley

Even if Weber wants out, and Philly was frustrated will the progress of talks, Nashville could still match and then negotiate more favorable terms next year, or the year after, and so on.

We shall see how it works out.

I don't think Weber wants out. He had to consider the possibility that Nashville would match, in which case he could be stuck there for up to 14 years. A risky proposition for him if he does in fact want out.

Maybe he wants to stay in Nashville (and Philly would be okay too), but this way he gets a (substantially) better deal from Nashville than he ever would have had he gone the standard negotiation route with his own team.

Agree completely but if you read the almighty Dreger you get a different take.

So the Hawks sign Jamie Kompon and Pierre Gauthier to suppliment an already top heavy management team. I thought both Kompon and Gauthier were blamed for their team's issues.

Do you all see this as a positive move?

I think Weber took the money while he could. With the uncertain CBA and rumors of limiting long term and front loaded contracts, he was smart to sign now. If the CBA didn't expire this year, no doubt Weber signs a one year contract with Nashville and explores UFA next year.

Check back about 2000 posts and you'll find your answer. That's yesterday's or the day before's news. Short answer is no.

Exactly, and apparently the Preds knew this was coming down the pike. They'll match it.

Yup, let's see now, the front office loses Q supporter Bergervin to the Habs. Bergevin wants to take Q but the 'hawks refuse to let him go. Q hires his own guy to be a bench jockey. So now we have the Bowmans versus the Qbees. I know who's winning this battle. Can't come soon enough for me.

Figured you'd like that.

I mean really now, how can anyone here be happy with that? Can't! Impossible!

Has Chicago always been run by committee (since Billy died) or is this just a recent phenomenon?

That's a BIG question and it won't happen under Poile's watch anymore, I don't think. Weber is staying put. Preds match. The only possible caveat to this is that Weber has asked to be traded and the Preds comply. As has already been mentioned we're talking about the welfare of a franchise here moreso than some ridiculous contract to one single player. The lost playoff revenues alone are worth bucking up for, IMO.

If Preds match, they pay SW $80M over next 6 seasons. Can they spend that AND pay Rinne ($42M over span) AND put talent around two players? -- Bill Meltzer (@billmeltzer)

They can trade Rinne to the 'hawks for Crawford. That solves that!

Edit: if anyone knows how to build a team on a shoestring it is Poile and Trotz knows how to coach one.

Billy as in dollar Bill Wirtz? No...before that, years before that. Bob Pulford, a right hand man of Bill Wirtz always had his grubby hands on things, even dating back to the days when Rocky's grandfather, Arthur (the guy who ran Bobby Hull out of town) was still involved with the team. Think Arthur was the Board of Governors' head honcho for years and years.

I get the feel from guys like JJ, that McD may have his hands in things associated with hockey operations.

Rocky has to do like Tom Ricketts of the Cubs. Hire a Hockey Ops Prez and let him run the show. If - IF - McD stays, he's on the BIZ side only.

Ricketts hired Theo Epstein away from the BoSox. THEO has complete and 100% autonomy to run all things baseball ops for the Cubs. Crain Kenney, McD's biz counterpart for the Cubs, does just that ... biz. And there's lots of it, especially as it pertains to Wrigley Field renovations.

Katherine McPhee - of American Idol fame.

We've been discussing babes like Kellie Pickler ever since she sang God Bless America at the MLB ASG last week. So I decided to up the ante a bit with 2 other Idol Goddesses, Carrie Underwood and Katherine McPhee. Check the bigger pix a couple pages back.

But they need to SPEND to reach the floor, so perhaps they'd want Olesz and Frolik.
