Nashville will need D-men now. Someone oon anoter board came up with Hammer for Colin Wiilson. I really like Wilson even though he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. How about either Hammer or Leddy for Wilson and other stuff? Obviously not a 1 for 1 trade - tomcat24
It's a little too early to start that talk. Hold that thought until next week, if Poile doesn't match the offer. |

I think the Preds have no choice but to let Weber go. Take the picks and move on. The best way for a team like Nashville to compete, is to do it like they've been doing:
Play a well coached, tightly structured, defense first system. Draft well. Be frugal, and hopefully you're just good enough to be a playoff team most years. Then, everyone once in a while when you fell you're close, go all in at the deadline...just like they did last year. Granted it didn't work, but I think for a small market team, the strategy could be a sound one.
Let Weber walk, take the picks, and reload. Good young players on entry level contracts are very, very valuable...especially for small market teams. What better way to try and make this happen than to have two 1st round picks a year for the next 4 years? Walk away, just let him go. |

The Preds might need d-men, but the Hawks no longer have them to trade because no one is coming to take Hammer's place, or Leddy's for that matter. Hawks could afford to talk about trading Hammer when they thought they might get Suter. Now? There's nobody out there who can replace him at the same salary. They have to keep him. |

It might come to that, given the way the Weber deal is structured with front loaded money. The problem is that letting Weber walk could really crush the fan base, and kill the interest in the team. It could be the pivotal thing that drives the Predators out of Nashville.
If Poile can find the money, I think he'll match the offer for Weber.

This makes sense in many ways but I think the loss of revenue at the gate is more of a concern. They've already lost ( I know) Tootoo, been spurned by Suter and traded away Linback. Tootoo and Suter were very popular players and Weber is probably their most popular. This isn't a Canadian market where they'll by whatever you sell them and pay whatever you charge them. They had the bucks to pony-up for Suter, this isn't that much different except for the upfront cash.

It's not really a consideration at this point.
Weber signed the offer sheet, which unless brain dead he had to do...
Why wouldn't he want to go to Philly?
Although at this point it doesn't matter at all. - Al
We'll see. Personally I would love to see them get weber for just the picks. My twitter account is unbelievably biased towards Philly which makes it tough to sort good info from wishful thinking.
I don't know if Nashville has the $$$$ to keep him. Homer really socked it to Poile there. Bonus money is untouchable correct?... and that's a lot of bonus money. |

If Poile can come up with the upfront cash, I believe he'd match the Weber offer sheet. |

No doubt about it. I think they match and this is just another routine time waster on a hot sunny day while we wait for the 'hawks to get off their backsides. |

This deal just seems so absurd when the details are examined. How can the Preds NOT match, but how can they afford the first few years.
So small market clubs struggle to match bids from big market clubs for FA's...
...and now big market clubs can structure deals for RFA's that make it difficult to impossible for small market clubs to match.
Preds ownership should consider stickin' it to the league by just folding...cease operations....
...During CBA negotiations too, so Bettman would flip out... |

And the league would just issue an expansion franchise in another city.

I wonder how pi$$ed Rinne is going to be when both Suter and Weber are gone? I'm sure when he signed his deal he thought at least one of them would be around for the long haul. That's a bummer man |

Hey, if Nashville goes into "rebuild mode," the Hawks should make a move for Rinne. |

Yup, if Weber goes. I also wonder just how Suter and Weber will be without each other. Kind of like Batman without Robin, the Lone Ranger without Tonto. Chemistry takes time. |

From my time hanging out on the Preds threads (poet and didn't even know it)...I think a lot of Preds fans would disagree. But, as you said, we'll see. |

There still are some good free agents out there. Hannan can replace hammer. Plus with this domino going the trade market might eventually open up |
