Nashville was going to pony up for Suter, they'll put up the cash for Weber and end all of this speculation in due course. Can they afford not to?
- djd

Their cap can afford to do it, but can the owner afford to pay off the $52 million in bonuses the next 4 years?

Can they afford NOT to? Nashville has spent a long time developing a fan base, a lot of which hinged on Suter/Weber. If both are gone...boy, I'm not sure if they could survive.

Well she is easy on the eyes.

Looking at Darren Dreger's tweet of earlier today..WOW.

"Weber will receive $14 mil in each of 1st 4 years. $12 mil in next 2 yrs. $6mil in following 4 yrs...then $3mil and $1mil, $1mil,$1mil,$1mil"

Plus 4 1st rd picks.

I know people on this board and the Blackhawks.com board have talked about booing Stan but I would be very surprised if it actually happened.

I agree, how would they spin that? They've spent years building that team and the fan base and this would be utter fail. Suter wanted to leave. I'm not so sure about Weber, but he used the CBA as it is today to advance his cause and secure his future. He may also have secured Nashville's too. They match, there is no choice near as I can see.

It depends. That's why they're going to take a long look at it, and try to get Philly to agree to send players over if they don't match. Try trading for one of the young guys that they can sell as a rising star and a new future face of the franchise. Still have Pekka. Still can sell Erat, Fisher, and Legwand for the time being.

One way or the other Weber is going to the bank with a $13 million check in hand come next Thursday. Will the Preds have that much liquidity in 6 days time? That's a lot of dough to keep on hand. They may. Who knows?

Even with a trade.... you know homer will wait til the 11th hour when Poile is desperate and forced to make a decision. Damn.... have I told you guys I heart homer yet. Lol.

Good luck selling those guys. They're already there. Yes, a trade could happen, but it won't. They've already lost Tootoo and Suter and traded Lindback. They'll match for Weber, end of story. They'll have a hard time giving away tickets if they don't.

I'm sure I will get the over sensitive Preds fans to jump in but...

If their attendance were to drop by 20% the new ownership would probably wish they weren't involved.

The Preds have big crowds for the Hawks but aren't full to the brim very often.

I could see attendance dropping 20% without both Suter and Weber.

Won't spent much time scouring for Weber trade details, but I've heard Preds wanted Couturier, Schenn and something else from Flyers. Ouch. -- Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger)

No wonder Homer gave Poile the big (frank) you.

I don't think getting $13 mill will be an issue it will be the entire first yr payment which may not make snese.

They can get a short term finance deal for $13 mill...NHL might even lend it???

But to commit almost $30 mill to one player in the 1st year...that could be an issue.

I'm willing to bet neither McD nor StanBow even show for the convention.

But Dave Manson and Stu Grimson will be in attendance

Imagine the 'hawks suddenly without Toews and Kane, Al. What would that do to attendance? Same thing here. Those two were the face of the Preds franchise.

Why would they, if there's no audience, then is there any show?
