According to Darren Dreger on Twitter Shea Weber has signed an offer sheet with the Flyers for 14 years and over $100 million. Nashville has 7 days to match the offer. |

If Nashville's final offer to Suter was 13 yrs 90 mil which is what was reported, I don't see them not matching Weber's offer sheet. Philly might have done Nashville a favor here. |

This helps the Hawks. If Nashville matches they have a lot of cap space tied in one player. If not they another division rival gets weaker. |

Shea Weber's tag was 7.5 mil through arbitration right? His new contract will be 7.14 mil , but he'll be set until he's 40 |

True. Nashville will match though. Can't see them losing Suter and Weber for 4 1st rd draft picks. |

The way to get Weber out of Nashville was to have him sign a 1 yr offer sheet. Philly messed up. |

Thats easily matched by Nashville and besides he has a 1yr/7.5 arbitration offer he could have signed if he wanted to leave them high and dry. Philly is locking up a franchise defenseman who can shore up their d-core for a long time to come. If Nashville matches Weber may get his money and then request a trade next year anyway. Nashville should match, but at this point idk |

Were they to do that, Nashville could pocket the 4 first round picks and Philly is only guaranteed to have him for one year. Quite a gamble. |

Nashville is in pretty nice shape here...they either have Weber, or a boatload of first round picks.
And the Hawks kinda benefit too...Weber either goes east for a long time, or stays in Nashville where it will always be tough putting a great team on the ice.
At least Weber won't move to Detroit, which is nice.
Guess we'll know more after the sun rises. |

Can't now...it's only Philly and Nashville. One or the other gets him for a long time.
Or perhaps I don't quite know the rules...
What happens if Nashville matches? Don't the Preds have to accept the 14 year deal that Weber signs? In effect didn't Philly to the negotiating for Nashville by making this offer sheet?
If yes, seems Philly did Nashville a favor here. Either they keep Weber, which is nice, or they get a crapload of picks, which is nice going forward. And Nashville could just decide to rebuild, so go into the toilet and be in several future lotteries...just like the Oil...
Would be tough on the fans, but no one said being a small market NHL team was easy. |

And the Nashville dismantling continues....
Will it happen, dunno. Depends on what Weber tells Nashville. If he tells them you can match it but he can hint that matching it might not be in their best interests. Meaning they'll pay him 100 mil but he may decide to feel injured a lot.
Really depends on his distaste for Nashville. Suter leaving, Nashville does nothing during the offseason to improve their roster. Weber probably wants out. |

I don't see it that way...
Weber is signing this due to the CBA expiring. New CBA may limit bonuses and term, so this may be the last, best chance for a monster deal. Also, I think it's simple...Weber has always been content in Nashville, with this it's either Philly or Nashville...he stays home or makes one move...and of course he'll be loaded. |

The HI guy says per source NSH unlikely to match. Weber also apparently doesn't want to play in NSH. I always new that town wasn't a good place for hockey. Weber wants to win and NSH is going to have to rebuild and that's no guarantee they will ever be as competitive as they were this year.
CBH could have made him a similar offer only problem they will have to dump a big salary to have done something like this. DK being the one I would move. |

I wouldn't want the Hawks to offer sheet a Shea Weber, the compensatory picks would be ludicrous. Would not have a decent pick for years. |

If ya get him, better hope he stays healthy...
...or you could be stuck paying Pronger and Weber, plus no top picks for years.
I can only imagine the price of tickets in Philly....WOW! |

You're correct. It's down to Nashville or Philadelphia.
While the picks would help Nashville rebuild, I don't know if they can afford to go into "rebuild mode" and possibly alienate their fan base even more.
I think Poile is going to have to match this one.

4 1st round picks. All 4 of those picks would probably be in the bottom ten of the first round.
