Kruger's overall game and experience makes him a legitimate NHL player right now. Saad might have some moments where he look slike an NHL player at 19. he will also have many where he doesn't. Coaches and scouts will see it, lots of fans won't.

Fair enough. I mean more in terms of relying on either to have a big impact or counting it as money in the bank (especially with a rookie) is kind of silly for the front office to make that assumption.

I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect a more consistent year from leddy though with the obvious gifts he has.

btw is anyone else fed up with the whole phoenix situation? Just move the team out of that city and be done with it! Would love to see a team in milwaukee, that would be a great rivalry with the hawks, and close proximity.

I think the league should get the F out of the way and just let Hockey in the Desert die.

Love this line from Bettman..

Bettman believes NHL’s CBA proposals “need serious consideration for us to move forward”

If the owners CBA outline is serious, why are these same owners spending like there's no cap? Is it hypocrisy or just a paradox? ...or both.

If the cap comes down, but "superstars" demand 8-10M a year, won't this lead to more disparity between good players and the rank and file?

Seems like this system will only lead to more problems down the road. Don't like it...

Hypocrisy i think......

How the frank is james wisniewski getting paid 5.5 per, he is a mediocre defenseman. One hit wonder garrison getting 4.6 mil

And Suter??? The guy is good, and how much did playing next to weber help? but 7.5 million!! Are you out of your mind?? Glad the hawks weren't stupid to take that cap hit.

The owners have plenty of money to throw at these guys. I hope the cap goes down and the teams that overpaid for guys can drown in those contracts. What a joke free agency has become. The last 2 years have brought out astronomically high contracts

Is hypocrisy and paradox a simile for stupidity? As in Craig Leopold and the Minnesota Wild.

But apart from Suter and Parise, I don't see that much in gross, idiotic spending going on this year. In fact, there are plenty of players with no contracts or offers on the table - from the fringe player to guys like Semin. Crosby just resigned for the same money, he didnt squeeze for more..

From what I understand, there are 10 teams in the league losing $25M annually on operations. The owners and their idiot General Managers share alot of the rsponsibility for that. Whatever system is agreed to, the teams hold the cards when it comes to contracts offers, signings for ridiculous lengths of time etc.

If you don't like a cap system, be prepared for teams like NYR, Philly, Toronto and Detroit to spend whatever it takes to win every year; $100M payrolls would be common quickly.

Bettman's proposal should also have included folding the Phoenix franchise. Let the players chew on that one for awhile.

The players luv the big bucks (who wouldn't?) and the owners seem hell bent on outbidding each other for the services of these players, so why even have a cap?

As always, owners insist that players control the spending habits...

...of the owners.

Then owners turn around and bid up the best players, CBA ends...and the owners complain about salaries.

Rinse and repeat...

Not sure what you are refering to for the $20 or the caring if any one likes you or not. I dont remember talking about that. I too am concerned how the hawks do and want them to do well. However in thier current state they are barely a playoff team. Current FAs that could help the club are turning down Stans offers (rumor being that they are low ball offers), and backing out of trades at the last minute. That dosent sound like the right direction to me. I cant say too much on Stans drafting yet its still incomplete. So some here think things are all fine, so once the season starts (when it does) I think there will be many leaving the side that thinks things are going well.

How about Wideman getting 5.5M a year
Mike Green getting 6M a year
40yo Ray Whitney 4.5M a year for 2 years.
Adam Burish 1.8M a year for 4 years

to name a few.

Rick, it's not that I don't like it...I'm kinda neutral really...whatever works.

I suppose any system will have big flaws and problems. Perhaps a luxury tax for choosing to exceed the cap? Greater profit sharing with the lesser clubs?

If the league wants to maintain 30 clubs, 15 cannot struggle tp stay afloat financially.

Conversely, if the players want a free market for their services, they also need to realize that many teams will struggle to complete for the best players. Without good players, poor teams struggle, fans don't attend....a negative feedback loop sets up....teams can fail and jobs will be lost.

Jeez...I can see why these negotiations can last forever.

Where I see the biggest issue in comparing Leddy's potential to Lidstrom is in hockey smarts. Lidstrom was perhaps the smartest hockey player to ever play the game. His instincts were second to none. As far as Leddy, he is without a doubt very gifted, but his hockey IQ doesn't seem to be that great IMO. This is where a gifted player separates himself from the others and is a special player. Not saying Leddy doesn't have the tools to be a special player, he does, but I just don't see it from a mental aspect.
- hawks2010

Ligitimate arguement and only time will tell if he has the hockey IQ to be a special player. Solid coaching would help but thats not going to happen. I fear he gets traded to a team with good coaching and becomes everything i think he can be and part of that is him paired with a physical defenseman and a solid goalie that allows him to be aggressive offensively. Hockey is a team game and Leddy needs a supporting cast
