So let me get this straight .... bad contract, top talent for bad contracts, no talent. I'm sure gillis can't wait to pull the trigger on that deal. - moylander
Is Gillis getting much better offers at the moment? |

Bad contract for bad contracts. It's the only way I would trade for Luongo. Even then, Luongo's contract still will end up biting the Hawks in the ass in the long run.
If Gillis doesn't like it, he can go scratch.
This is it...bingo...nobody is gonna give Leddy or Morin or any real prospect. Montador, Frolik, Olesz...
Everyone moves on...and....that is that...

Personally if I'm gillis I call up Columbus and see if they want Schneider and if Nash will play in Vancouver. Low risk in the sense that there is no way Schneider becomes an elite goaltender on that team (Columbus) and he just acquired a star to play with the sedin sisters. Gillis will take short term heat for the trade but will look good in the end. Lu will not have Schneider breathing down his neck either.... might be enough to convince him to stay.

In the end.............Howson will end up being a better GM than Stan Bowman. Its to me is clear that this organization needs a front office overhaul. It all started with the handling of Tallon. Players and agents can see whats going on in Chicago. Rocky needs to hire a GM and let him do his job, its obvious that GM by commettie dosent work. Just way too many spoons trying to stir the pot. |

The 2 players I would love to see in a Canucks jersey would be Bolland and Marchand...... that would be glorious
Bolland, Leddy or Haljmarson and a second for Luongo would do the trick. Fix both teams needs.
What a nightmare though if Luongo goes to the Hawks and helps them win a cup..... that would kill us fans. - CanuckforLife
But somehow would be exactly what would happen because that's exactly the sort of thing to happen to the Canucks.
Trading Lou to Chicago is a great story for everyone else - kind of nerve-wracking for Canucks fans... |

I still doubt it. At least it won't be Luongo. I can't see Bowman having the nuts to pull off a big deal like that.
I think there is something to Gillis sitting and waiting to deal Luongo after the season starts. Perhaps there will be more interest then? Besides Toronto and Chicago having issues in goal, Tampa Bay is going in with an inexperienced goalie.
Luongo in Tampa maybe by December? |

I would only give up 1 prospect(anyone except Tuevo, Saad or Clendenning) along with a bad contract(Frolik or Olesz). I might give you Bickell also if that makes you feel better |

Quite possibly, or he could be a bust. The cap hit differential is what $1.5 million or so? Trading Lu gets gillis nothing. Trading schneider gets gillis solid return for the future and for now. I know this won't happen but if it were me it would. Jmo.

If that's your belief, that's fine. I have my view point as well, and it's obvious that both of our opinions are at either ends of the spectrum. No need to bash each other, at least this time. I'm sure we're both sick to death about arguing about Luongo. I know I am. |

Agreed.
Gillis would have teams lining up for Schneider. As Al says, Gillis could have Schneider traded before breakfast if he wanted too. |

Yeah true I can see that Schneider would be more marketable, However Luongo has wore out his welcome with sub par playoff preformances. |

Maybe with the other guy, but not with me. For me, it would have to be...
Frolik, Olesz and Crawford ($8.126 combined cap hit) for Luongo ($5.334 million cap hit). Adding in Vancouver's cap space ($3.046 million), It would leave the Canucks $254,000 under the cap.
OR if Montador is willing to waive his partial NTC, or if it doesn't get in the way...
Montador, Olesz and Crawford ($8.542 million in cap hits combined) for Luongo ($5.334 million cap hit). Adding in Vancouver's cap space ($3.046 million), It would leave the Canucks $162,000 over the cap. I'm sure Gillis could demote a two way contract to make it work, or just hide Olesz in Chicago.
Either deal should include the 2014 3rd round pick of the Blackhawks and a choice of either one of Morin, Pirri or Beach. If Gillis wants something of value in return, that's what it's going to be.
Bad contract for bad contracts. It's the only way I would trade for Luongo. Even then, Luongo's contract still will end up biting the Hawks in the ass in the long run.

That's still too much, in my opinion. Any deal for Luongo has to be built around Crawford to start, then two of the three bad contracts. After that, maybe you throw Gillis someone like Bickell, or a pick, or mid level prospect like Pirri, Morin or Beach to give him some value back. |

Vantel,
This isn't a personal slap so please don't be offended...I like reading your comments but to think Gillis has any leverage is absurd.
First you had trouble admitting Luongo asked to be traded(wants to move on is really the same thing) and once that happened any leverage Gillis had was gone.
Personally I would be fine with Luongo coming here as long as it was for a low price but I think Gillis will convince Fla. to take him or Luongo will expand his list of teams.
Either way the Canucks will get back no more than projects/draft picks/ bad contracts or off the radar prospects.
Like I have said too many times, Gillis hestitated....
The Hawks gave Campbell away but the front office knew teams that are $30 mill under the cap with a familar GM to boot don't come around very often.
I didn't like the Campbell dump then and won't until the cap space saved is used wisely.
He who hesitates is lost and right now Gillis is caught.
As far as the comments from you and others about goal tending issues here...
I realize the importance because in my lifetime there have been three HOF goalies that have played for the Hawks. That's something the Canucks, Flyers and other clubs haven't had in the last 50 years...
But you don't open the check book too wide to buy something there are no buyers for.

In all reality it is Gillis who has the sweaty palms, he is in a position that he has to make a move. If Bowman gets snubbed in making a trade no one here will be suprised. We all know what we have in the team right now, 7th or 8th seed and a first round out. |
