Id love to get Luongo but not for Shaw. I think Leddy and some picks would be enough. Anyone who provides leadership is what Vancouver needs besides i (frank)ing Love Shaw, would hate to root against him now. |

Bowman giving up that much talent to get Luser? Who is Bowman competing against?
If that's the trade for Luongo, I think Bowman passes Howson for worst GM in the league. If McD has his fingerprints all over it, the (frank)ing guy needs to get fired before this thing goes down.
Somebody call Rocky and wake him up! His team is swirling the bowl. - EKolb13
Swirling the bowl ...
I would take LU
.but only if shít contracts went the other way ....this is not that...at all |

JJ you have made the exact same "Saad" argument for the last three years. First, it was about Nick Leddy. Then it was about Kruger. This year it is about Saad. Neither Leddy or Kruger had the kind of experience you wanted before they came into the league. Saad doesn't either.
I get that but I don't see where you can fill out a roster with 6 big contracts and NOT do it with multiple prospects. You have to have a steady stream of these guys to make that "core" work.
Look at capgeek.com. Look at all of the contender teams for the last three years. Does anybody (including the Hawks when they won) have 6 (or with Campbell 7) contracts above 5M? There is a reason for that.
With 4 large contracts, Kruger can play 4th line center, Leddy can play as a 6th D-man. With 6 large contracts they have to play top 6 and top 4 to make the cap work. And with those contracts expiring you have to get their cheap contract replacements in the pipeline. - DaleHalas
I love it when people put words in my mouth.
I don't recall making the lack of experience argument with Leddy as far as playing in the NHL. I DO recall saying he lacked the experience to be a top 4 guy—and I was right.
On Kruger, what I said was that while I have ALWAYS been a believer in him, I thought your hero Stanley anointing him as second line C in the spring of 2011 was a bitr premature, and it likely was.
Oh and the fact remains, Kruger and Leddy (and Bickell) had more experience and years on the planet at this time last year than Saad does now.
Find another subject to change it to. |

Per TSN and Darren Dreger all signs point to Roberto Luongo accepting a trade to Chicago for Nick Leddy, Corey Crawford, Andrew Shaw, and a second round pick. Blackhawks will also recieve a conditional third round pick as compensation. Announcement could be held until the Blackhawks open their convention this weekend. Final details are being worked out, but it is believed that Luongo will be present at the convention. - bonecrusher27
Not nearly enough salary going back and ANDREW SHAW?
What the F(U)CK is SB thinking?
I've come to accept a Bobbi Lu trade here but Shaw going back? He found a diamond in the rough with the kid in the 5th round. Keep him. May make up a bit for a 1st or 2nd round bust.
I can see CC and Leddy, but not Shaw.
Boy I hope there's other move(s) besides this. |

Carcillo will. They are similar players. Don't need 2 smaller sized energy players on the team. Shaw is expendable IMO. - moylander
I think the Hawks would get more offense from Shaw so for that reason I would keep Shaw over Carcillo but I agree with your premise that one of them would be expendable. |

If you separate out the emotion for or against the players in this deal it breaks down to this....
Projected 3rd line winger + Projected 2nd pairing dman (both undersized) for a top 5-10 goalie.
That's a great deal. Hawks have a plethora of bottom line forwards to cover for Shaw. And right now leddy is a 3rd pairing dman which the hawks have plenty of. |

Could not disagree more Eli...but you probably expect me to say that. - ArlingtonRob
Rob, I agree with you on the Hawks needing and upgrade in goal. I agree that Luser would provide that upgrade. As much as his contract sucks, if the right deal were made to acquire him, it would make sense. I'll concede to that point.
What gets me is giving up two players with upside in Leddy and Shaw to acquire Luser. What team is Stan competing against to acquire Luser? If there is almost no demend for Luser, why overpay for him? Why not send some bad salary back to Vancouver? |

If that's the deal in place I think he's giving up too much. What do you think Rob? - jhawk159
I'm the last guy to ask...if real, I want to hear from JJ and Al. When it comes to assessing value coming and going I don't have a good sense.
At this point, what is the long term outlook for a Leddy or Shaw?...I personally can't say.
Anyhow...I'm waiting till more is revealed. I'll believe when I see it. |

I'm not sure it's an overpayment...might be...just don't know. What's the long term value of a Shaw? I like the kid too, but what's the upside? I just don't know...that's where scouts and the front office come in...
...tough choices. Like all else, if legitimate, time will tell.
