JJ,
In your opinion, why are the hawks not getting any love from any of the remaining free agents. IMO Chicago is one of the nicest cities in the country, it's a storied franchise. There has to be a reason why fa don't wanna play here. I presented this same question a few weeks ago when the whole praise/suter debacle was going on & Al said in that case Min just offered everything they were looking for. I can buy that. But what I don't buy is that fa's don't wanna play here just cause they wanna play somewhere else. Something ain't right. You can't tell me these players wouldn't wanna play with toews, Kane, Hosea, & company.
This has to be something within the organization - abvnbyd
I asked the same question on page 2.
Does anybody have an opinion as to why JJ is saying this?
I know they got bumped from the first round the last two years but this can't be the reason.

TSN's Darren Dreger reports that negotiations are ongoing, but Canucks general manager Mike Gillis "is driving the bus and the bus is in low gear." Florida didn't like the first proposal and Gillis has sent a counter offer". - LeftCoaster
That was posted back on June 29th prior to the start of FA. Prior to the Panthers signing Scott Clemmensen. Could have completely changed since then. Not saying that is wrong, but it was posted a some time ago. |

My opinion is, if it is a quality forward ,they will compete for icetime with Toews Kane Sharp Hossa
If it is a quality Dman, they compete for the spotlight against Keith and Seabrook.
Most top UFAs want to be THE MAN. |

Maybe but the remaining FA are not the top tier variety like Parise or Suter. |

Right now most GMs are still trying to land the big fish . The lesser group will be after the big guys are gone.Besides the quality of UFAs this year and the asking price |

Lowballing UFAs seems like it.
Full roster? Does the 50-man limit apply right now?
SB perhaps could also be lowballing on trades (NOT Bobbi Lu), real trades like th ones they could do with EDM & MTL. |

Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Sometimes you have to take some form of calculated risks.
Failure to do so will leave you with a middle of the road team which is exactly what we have! End results = first or second round exits. |

The 2 players I would love to see in a Canucks jersey would be Bolland and Marchand...... that would be glorious
Bolland, Leddy or Haljmarson and a second for Luongo would do the trick. Fix both teams needs.
What a nightmare though if Luongo goes to the Hawks and helps them win a cup..... that would kill us fans. - CanuckforLife
More like Frolik+leddy for Lou and a 2nd... |

If Leddy is going to be there you have to demand a 1st round pick. That 1st round pick will be in the bottom 15-20, so it's about as good as a 2nd round pick.

JJ can answer for himself if he wants to expound but...
and I am hearing they are not getting a lot of love from the remaining free agents out there.
My take is he explained already... I am hearing means just that...It isn't necessarily his conclusion but he is hearing so. |

It's their loss.
Chicago is a great place to play...IMO. |

No one wants the rat - pker2theend
Well first of all, I want to puke after reading a nucks thread. Second, it seemed pretty split in there about who wanted Bolland in Van. The bottom line is, doesn't matter, I cannot see the Hawks trading Bolland. Doesn't make much sense for a team already thin at center. The only way the Hawks end up with Luo is if they can shed bad contracts (frolik, olez, montador, etc.). Chances of Van wanting this crap are slim, so I don't see it happening.
I think Van trades him at the deadline. |

Maybe with the other guy, but not with me. For me, it would have to be...
Frolik, Olesz and Crawford ($8.126 combined cap hit) for Luongo ($5.334 million cap hit). Adding in Vancouver's cap space ($3.046 million), It would leave the Canucks $254,000 under the cap.
OR if Montador is willing to waive his partial NTC, or if it doesn't get in the way...
Montador, Olesz and Crawford ($8.542 million in cap hits combined) for Luongo ($5.334 million cap hit). Adding in Vancouver's cap space ($3.046 million), It would leave the Canucks $162,000 over the cap. I'm sure Gillis could demote a two way contract to make it work, or just hide Olesz in Chicago.
Either deal should include the 2014 3rd round pick of the Blackhawks and a choice of either one of Morin, Pirri or Beach. If Gillis wants something of value in return, that's what it's going to be.
Bad contract for bad contracts. It's the only way I would trade for Luongo. Even then, Luongo's contract still will end up biting the Hawks in the ass in the long run.
If Gillis doesn't like it, he can go scratch. |

So let me get this straight .... bad contract, top talent for bad contracts, no talent. I'm sure gillis can't wait to pull the trigger on that deal. |
