I'm with Ogie here. If you are Q and you know that PP and PK are two areas that your team sucked at last year, and you admitted this after a first and out season, then why the (frank) would you hire someone who doesn't have proven abilities to improve these areas???
You may say that someone of this caliber wasn't available. I say BS. There are plenty of coaches in the lower levels who would jump at the the chance to work in the big league. A newbie wouldn't have been a threat to Q either. If you're going to gamble...bring in new talent. At least then we could be optimistic.
(Frank) Q.

Where's your proof of this? - EKolb13
I can't say, well I can but I'm choosing not too. I'm not pretending to be a hockey insider or anything. I don't have any insight to any other players or situations, just this one.
I know the details of this situation for a fact. But I can understand if you choose not to believe me. Stan also tried to acquire Garrison at the trade deadline, but that didn't happen (obviously). |

I don't know that many teams that have 4 forwards all a solid bet for 70+ points. In fact, I don't know that many that even have 3. But it is the depth players that turn a very good team into a great one. Pllayers capable of 20+ goals and 40-60 points. Who also proovide some physical play and great forecheck. I think our D would actually look pretty decent with another solid vet like Hannan |

Actually Colin Fraser is a good 4th line face off guy, a player that gets under others skin.............A player that stands up for his team mates...........Could have used someone like that a few times this season. Hit on Toews, Hit on Hossa................I really liked how the players on ice watched as hossa was motionless.............that was great. But yeah Fraser who needs a player that will stand up for his team mates. - blkhwkfn
Fraser is a vaaaginaaa. Very lucky to get 2 rings. Serves almost no purpose. |

And I am no genius, but I did save a lot of money by switching my insurance to Geico. I also have pics of Bigfoot, but choose not to share them. Get real tool. |

I am going to have to read back and writh down all the names that think this thing will correct its self, and all is not that bad with this roster. Lets see what they say when the Hawks have a slow start.............if there is hockey before the year is up. |

I put in game 28 earlier ....
I can't believe I'm talking about betting on the demise of the team when just 25 months and 8 days ago, this team was on top of the world. |

I said 28 games earlier, EK. I don't think they'd can him in the middle of that road trip if it's the usual 6 or 7 gamer in November. |

How exactly do these players improve the Hawks? Depth?
These are not difference makers...they are simply guys. - ArlingtonRob
Regarding...
1) new coaching staff
2) new GM
3) Daniel Winnik
4) Scott Hannan
- ikeane
Winnik would be the 3L guy Bickell and others haven't. He can take a draw at times, play the kill and more than handle the physical game.
Hannan would be the 5D guy (LHS) to go with Brookbank (RHS) on the 3rd pairing, handle minutes OD, LePisto, SCOTT & Monty couldn't do last season.
Their presence on the team takes PK time off the shoulders of Toews, Sharp and Hoss. They would provide the physical presence so sorely missing last year.
So, IMHO they would significantly improve the 'Hawks physical presence AND depth. |

Dumb proposal of the day on HF:
Hammer to Leafs for Connolly
http://hfboards.hockeysfu.../showthread.php?t=1231763
"Chicago gets their 2nd line center, and Toronto gets a guy who can play the right side with Gardiner.
Chicago takes on an extra 1.25 million, but only for a year, Connolly being a UFA after this upcoming season, Hjalmarsson remaining under contract for a full year more.
Toronto can afford to do it because Bozak, Grabovski, McClement, and Steckel + Colborne are 4 centers + 1 near NHL-ready. Chicago can afford to do it because they've signed Oduya, and have Olsen near NHL-ready.
Both players get a chance to rejuvenate their careers."
Hammer in a package for Franson and Colborne I consider, just don't think CHI/TOR make good trade partners especially since Stan hasn't worked with Burke before

Not a bad idea but Hammer's spot must be backfilled by a comparable player - that is not JO - such as Hannan or Clark. |

Depth wins cups. Rather have Winnik show up for 82 games than Bickell for 23

My guess.... hawks get off to quick start..... then they wear down again like last season. Only this time they might not get 50 games into the season injury free. |

Actaully Rocky is pretty smart , maybe Rocky thinks there will be no hockey this year....?? I dunno , grasping for reasons to make this average roster make sense. |

My response was "Hammer is a top 4 damn on most teams, including Chicago. Connolley is a hit away from being a comatosed vegetable. Hammer for Colborne as centerpieces I think about if I am Chicago's GM. Connolley has negative value.
Counter Olesz for Connolley...
Kidding aside, don't think Chicago and Leafs have pieces that fit for each other"

I must have missed it, or been in class...I'll put both you and blackhawks24 down for that day, you can share it. Otherwise, it one game per person. Winner gets bragging rights.
I wasn't even serious about it until Four Feathers picked a game just within the hour. I just started writing them down after that. |
