Yes to the first part and I don't believe Stan Bowman ever backstabbed Tallon. Everything I've ever heard is he's a good guy, just maybe not ready to be an NHL GM when hired. - John Jaeckel
Why did Rocky ever hire Stan in the first place? The job should have gone to an experienced gm or at least and assistant gm with some bona fides |

Nothing wrong with the statement ....its just not what we all had in mind for a AST. Coach....hard to see any good coming from this hiring . - southernhawk
It's a friggin' assistant coach...what did you have in mind?
What name would get you excited? |

Wow!
Look at all this negative reaction to a coach that nobody knows anything about. How hilarious.
Exactly who did you want Q to hire? I know there were no names thrown around on this site. That's for sure. People were going to female dog no matter who they brought in.
All I know is this guy worked on the Kings staff. And he used to work with Q. That's all I know. And that's all you know too. So please, stop crying like this hire just ran over your dag. You have no idea whether it's a good hire or not. - yahoodi

Why would a future hire need to have a Chicago connection? couldnt they just go for someone with skill? - InvisibleOrange
Invisible - my point is that Edzo is one of us - he knows the team/ the fan base/ he grew up here. He wore the Indian Head. He's a smart guy and a hockey guy. I'm also thinkin' of Rocky's comfort level here.
But JJ makes an excellent point in regard to Detroit and St. Louis and their smart low key presidents and GMs. I certainly want McCub gone - the arrogance of his own One Goal commerical makes me want to puke. Blow the whole thing up and rebuild from the front office to the ice from the top down. |

Dale, ...
All that said the Campbell/Olesz availble cap space was left unused....
The best teams normally bump up to the cap...The Hawks had a lot of room to improve and made one marginal upgrade in Oduya.
That's bad mgt more than required economics.
On Twitter@AlCimaglia - Al
Al, you make way too big a deal about last years extra cap space. The cap went up more than expected the year before the CBA expired. Only 4 teams were able to "bump" the salary cap last year. That is only a third of the teams that did so the year before. The Red Wings knew it was most likely Lidstrom's last year and they were further under the cap than the Hawks. Was that "bad management" from Detroit?

Unless he is the brains behind Q, then that could be good. But even with the stacked teams down in St.Louis, that Q team never won the cup. |

Barry Smith. 22 yrs experience tactical guru for special teams and oh he is already employed by the CBH. But alas Q thought of only himself and his ego. If anyone should get booed at the convention only this bozo does. |

I found this short piece discussing Kompon...
http://www.echl.com/echl-...s-assistant-coach-p177578 - ArlingtonRob
I guess I should look on the bright spot - in the pic, Kompon is chatting with Doughty, so i guess he is working with the dmen? Could help on breakouts so we don't have to rely on the blast around the boards or the chip out of the zone by the boards. Maybe he is a pk man too. The Kings had a nice pk in the playoffs. |

Ha. When all three of them were on the staff in '99 and won the Presidents' Trophy, they saw a first round exit. That's it, we're losing to LA in 6 next year. |

As of 1 year ago:
Kruger — had played and succeeded in pro hockey in Sweden (against men), and had more NHL experience than Saad
Stalberg— had played 2 full seasons in the NHL
Leddy had most of a season in the NHL
Bickell had all or part of 2 seasons
All were older than Saad.
If I understand you correctly, you think you're providing a rationale for why playing Saad this year is necessary by citing these players and their inclusion on the roster (with available cap space) last season.
You have failed to make that argument as ALL your examples had measurable pro experience, and some pro success, at that point and ALL were older than Saad is. - John Jaeckel
JJ you have made the exact same "Saad" argument for the last three years. First, it was about Nick Leddy. Then it was about Kruger. This year it is about Saad. Neither Leddy or Kruger had the kind of experience you wanted before they came into the league. Saad doesn't either.
I get that but I don't see where you can fill out a roster with 6 big contracts and NOT do it with multiple prospects. You have to have a steady stream of these guys to make that "core" work.
Look at capgeek.com. Look at all of the contender teams for the last three years. Does anybody (including the Hawks when they won) have 6 (or with Campbell 7) contracts above 5M? There is a reason for that.
With 4 large contracts, Kruger can play 4th line center, Leddy can play as a 6th D-man. With 6 large contracts they have to play top 6 and top 4 to make the cap work. And with those contracts expiring you have to get their cheap contract replacements in the pipeline.

How is the hiring of an assistant a sign that we are screwed...
...sure Q knows him, why is that a problem?
...the guy just got a ring, why is that a problem?
Why would Haviland be laughing? Has he even found another job yet?
Relax Eli...
I would think we need to actually watch the team play to see how this plays out. Getting upset about the hiring of an assistant...a guy who just got a ring...is ridiculous. - ArlingtonRob
You don't think the fact that they just won a Cup and Don't want this guy back is a bit of a red flag? If ain't broke don't fix it right? So why are they "fixing" it? |
