STL had a lot of success with them at the reins though

I mean they lost to a Stanley Cup finalist or winner every time in the playoffs with the exception of 2 I think before Q finally got fired. It isn't like they lost to garbage teams for the most part.

That STL team of that era was like how the Sharks have been. Cant say they haven't been successful but it is kind of puzzling as to why they haven't gotten over that hump either... Coaching... Players... Both...

Still to say they didn't have success is kind of ridiculous.

Reminds me of the Sr. Wirtz, stuck in the old days. In 1961 it worked, so it must in 2001...fast forward to today where Scotty Bowman's system worked for years, but the game has changed and moved away from the stick waving dman. No adaptation = 1st round exits, or missing the playoffs completely
- ikeane

You do realize Scotty Bowman had success for over 40 years and is arguably the greatest hockey coach ever. Did the game not change over that time period and just magically garner adjustment now? Don't think so

I realize this, but last I checked Scotty isn't the coach. The coach isn't utilizing players properly and is recruiting all of his buddies to town

Maybe the reason I'm not on the same page with most folks here is because I don't see us contending for a cup...

If we don't, there's NO reason to sign Doan...

- busmaster

If they can't contend for a Cup, time to break up the core and get a lot of prospects for Hossa, Sharp, Boland, Kane, Seaburg, etc. - if you're saying the Hawks won't contend for a Cup this year (next year? year after?), time for a rebuild so that when the prospects (Saad) are ready, there is a new core in place.

Time is ticking, window is closing.

Nothing wrong with the statement ....its just not what we all had in mind for a AST. Coach....hard to see any good coming from this hiring .

Aside from a playoff appearance I wouldn't get too excited.

Wow!

Look at all this negative reaction to a coach that nobody knows anything about. How hilarious.

Exactly who did you want Q to hire? I know there were no names thrown around on this site. That's for sure. People were going to female dog no matter who they brought in.

All I know is this guy worked on the Kings staff. And he used to work with Q. That's all I know. And that's all you know too. So please, stop crying like this hire just ran over your dag. You have no idea whether it's a good hire or not.

What good does it do to claim if he has any or not? You've already given your rebuttal for that one too: He hasn't proven it against top-flight competition.

What top flight skill does he have? I don't know. He led the OHL last year in goals per game, so he's gotta have something right? Oh yeah, but he's a year older than the average I'm sure you'd say... Big deal.

Ask SB. I've never said or indicated he'd ever be a superstar, or that he should be here over Rockford, because I do agree he's not ready.

But at least agree with me on this point: If he gets regular PT now, he'll be more ready the following year, whereas if we give that time to another over the hill journeyman, even a Doan, we'll have zilch to show for it in two years.

"Just by the numbers Morin looks to be more of what we need"

What the other poster said.

You're right, I'm the bad guy, stick in the mud what have you for being somewhat cynical about your hero, the uncrowned 2013 Calder Trophy winner, Brandon Saad.

Couldn't be maybe that your blind faith, on the other hand, is a bit unreasonable? Nahhh.

Any reasoning behind Kompon wanting to leave a great situation in LA to come to join his old pals in Chicago?

LA's going to be icing the same squad as last year essentially which gives him another chance at a cup.

I'm with you on Scotty. But he's 78 years old, has a heart condition and lives in Florida.

Pretty sure in June the Kings let him know that they were not going to renew his contract.

I have no opinion on Jamie Kompon. Could be a brilliant hire or a whole lot of nothingness.

I find the fact that he is not a household name and an old crony of Q to make him a bit suspect. But we'll have to see. And honestly, this team has larger problems anyway.

This hiring reminds me of the Bears and Lovie Smith hiring coaches like Marinelli and Martz. It didnt end well for the Bears, hope it works out for the Hawks.

Put this team in the hands of a qualified General Manager and you don't even mention windows closing, clocks ticking and all of that other horsecrap. This team has a strong group of players at both the NHL level and kids on the farm that need further development by solid coaches.

I'm talking about guys that know the game and judging talent at key positions- Doug Armstrong, Don Maloney, Tallon, Bryan Murray, Ray Shero, Joe Neuwendyk, Yzerman, Pat Quinn etc. It's a travesty that the Hawks are led by an incompetent boob / decision maker like Stanbow.

I don't disagree. It is however even more discouraging that a large chunk of the Kings' fanbase wanted him gone. Sounds a lot like Kitchen. Just saying.

100% agree only you can't excuse or omit McDnough. NOT ONE of those guys comes to work here for John McDonough, unless the guy is desperate and/or brings baggage with him.

Point being, if/when Bowman goes, don't be surprised if McDonough does too or already has.

I wouldn´t make any conclusions from what any fanbase thinks.
