This would make the PK better
- mrpaulish

Lu would make every defensive stat better add that to the fact we score goals fine , a full season of Carcillo Shaw, point being no other acquisition has the ability to so drastically improve the team as a whole than the goaltender .

A lot here to chew on, Al......... The first being as far as your contacts go Kane was never shopped? Only listened when other GM's called?

Bolland is one of those guys who gives much that's never seen in the boxscore. He really is a first rate shutdown centerman, but what always is in the back of my mind is his back troubles. I wonder if that's true with the Hawks as well.

Do you think Shaw could develop into the same kind of shutdown 3rd line centerman? If so that would make Bolland, at some point, expendable. If he is you'd sure hope he's part of a bigger package, as you mention.

I agree about Kruger. Kid is light and knocked around easily. You skate him 17-18 minutes for 80 games with his fearless style and he'll be banged up come Springtime.

- Mr Ricochet

I never heard Kane was actually on the block although I would bet there were calls taken.

The only one of #2,#7, #10, #19, #36, #81 and #88 that I have heard was offfered around was Bolland and that wasn't until this May.

I wouldn't discount Shaw although I like him at wing and I think so does Q.
But who knows how things will sort out in camp.

Corey Crawford + 2013 2nd rd pick

Cory Schneider

Worked in NHL12

In all seriousness... It sounds like we are stuck with Corey. Q gave him the ol' "Vote of Confidence" at prospect camp the other day. Maybe all this time off will help CC forget his failures......

If HI is correct gagne signed 4 years at $13 million. Still waiting to hear that from more credible sources.

That's an affordable 2c/3c if true.

You won't need to worry Southern...

...there likely won't be hockey this year anyhow. At least no NHL hockey...

From what I read today the wildly hyprocritical owners are again demanding that their bad spending habits be reigned in by.... the players.

I still think trading Bolland would be a big mistake. Plus, I don't think he would bring back what we reallly need

What's your gut telling you regarding the Hawks doing....anything...at this point in time.

The roster seems basically set...Hawks had no RFA's and the UFA's weren't going to return anyhow...Oduya excluded of course.

Much of the angst this offseason has seemed misplaced due to the set nature of the roster.

Trades seemed like the only possible route to upgrading the roster, and we've seen zilch to this point.

Thought there might be some movement prior to the Convention, but not so sure now. I suppose there's still time before camp is supposed to start.

And the CBA...I'm getting a bad feeling now...

Yeah that date for the new cba is getting closer and closer. I think they will start the season late. Hopefully not december. All along I kept thinking they will make some major splash for the convention. Now I think they might be afraid of a negative response from the huge crowd. They will get one anyway if they don't do anything else. I am sure they will announce a new asst coach before friday, though

Yeah that would be the only way for me, too. I still don't know how they plan on making a huge impact trade to really help the team if the only core guy they would think of trading is Bolland. I'm still hoping for a guy like Evander Kane. Plus Burmistrov

Lol. Yeah I'm sure they won't be leaving anytime soon. Obviously it would take a lot to get one of them.

Yeah we had this discussion a few months back in our blog and realized that even Raymond + Ballard + a 2nd wouldn't be enough for Evander Kane. And for us to come to that conclusion, that's saying something.

JJ -
The flaw in your assumption that getting Luongo would "avert an ugly, boo-filled scene" at the Convention is that a great majority of those people attending would mercilessly boo Luongo and/or the news of acquiring him.

And deservedly so: Luongo is a millstone contract who has proven ZERO when the pressure is on and it's time for him to deliver - Hawks fans know this better than anyone (2009, 2010, and games 4-6 of the 1st Round of the 2011 playoffs).

This "set" roster - simply on headcount - won't cut it. We all know that. SB couldn't pull the potential OTT deal, or one with EDM, or MTL for that matter. Wonder if JJ can find out one day what held either one of those up; if they were really on the table at all.

Just now on the CBA, eh? Gonna be a blood bath .... unless .... they decide to hold the line for another year and negotiate throughout the summer, camp and the season.
