If Gillis was forced to do a salary dump which he is not ,he would do it with the Panthers ,not the Leafs or Hawks.

If Gillis was to send Lu to Europe until a team realized they need him,Marcus Naslund is the GM of Modo.

His hands are nowhere near tied yet.

- VANTEL

No they are not tied yet.But he has a low rated system and a aging squad whose window is closing! He can easily keep him and pay !0 Mil on goalies this year.Heck he may get a good deal come the trade deadline next year? But to send him to europe will not work!He would have to make it past waivers if Im not mistaken!

If this is the case then we are all wasting time. A rival will not get a quality goalie for salary dump. End of thread right now .
- VANTEL

I never said Lu is coming here, although he would make the Hawks better most likely.

Gillis has Toronto...which may not be interested and Lu doesn't want to go there yet.

Florida- which is happening a yr too late but owner might still sign off on.

To come here it can't be hockey trade for Hawks unless Bowman is out of his mind....
This is the same team that dumped Campbell for Olesz.....

It would be deemed a salary dump and Gillis would be risking his hockey future in Vancouver if it worked out in Chgo.

The one common thread is both clubs could be getting desperate.

I think there is a grace period at the beginning of the year where you can send players down move them before the season starts without putting them on waivers.

I know most Vancouver fans would be extremely pissed at Gillis if they gave Lu away for a salary dump. If he is not going to bring back fair value the we would rather he played back up and provided the Canucks with solid goaltending. Yes it is a 5.3 mil back up but it is better than providing a rival with the main piece for a salary dump. Gillis better not make a stupid trade or fans will be calling for his job on every hockey site and in every newspaper.

Morin and Leddy for Luongo?

You're taking salary back if you're getting ONE of those two.

Gillis just signed a new 5 year deal, Al. I don't think he's too worried about his future.

Why do you think Bowman is out of his mind if he makes a (semi) hockey trade? That's probably why the 'hawks are even on the radar here—because they'll give a little to get. Note, I said little.

Luongo improves the 'hawks and if a deal is there SB should do it.

Winning a presidents trophy means that you at least make the playoffs. Having two AHL goalies may mean the opposite

So much for the significant changes by the Hawks.

I wonder if other other GMs are don't waiting on Bowman to make a freaking decision, that they don't even bother with him as much.

I can't wait till they purge the current front office, including McDonough.

That will never happen having both throughout the season and most likely Luongo will not start the season with Vancouver. Again your GM does not have many dance partners and Lu would never accept a demotion to bury his salary for cap purposes. Also from the rumors of Lu not wanting to go to Toronto where are the other options besides the Blackhawks and maybe, a big maybe,Florida?Lu will be dealt or it will be a big distraction for your team. If I were SB I would not overpay. No way to a top 4 D or a top 6 forward and that goes for Bolland also. Gillis will cave in on his demands!

Enjoy Luongo's contract along with Schneider's

careful what you wish for.... they may end up enjoying watching crawford struggle in net.

Imo The hawks need a goalie way more than gillis needs to get rid of one. with Luongo the canucks are $5 million under the cap. This is 1 of those situations where you pay a little bit more to permanently solve a need and not 1 of those situations you try to go for a steal of a deal. Jmo

Yes. It is. Especially when you have nearly 15% of your cap space invested in them. The skill level in front of them, which can make or break a goalie, is forced to be significantly lower when you can't afford to keep all of them there. I assume Malholtra, Raymond, Burrows, Edler, Higgins will ask for raises when they ALL become UFAs at the end of the year.

Luongo is still under contract with the Canucks and so is Schneider. They are both friends. It would be crazy to think that they may be together next year but it would be just as crazy to think they would not be together until the right trade is made.

If I were Stan I would not give a top 6 or a top 4 D. If he had signed another FA then I would have no problem. At least I would not do that just yet. I would just wait it out a little bit longer and see what transpires. Of course we need an upgrade in net but Lu is not the only answer.

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Jensen
Raymond Lapierre Hansen
Pinizzoto Malhotra Volpatti

Ebbett

Hamhuis Bieksa
Edler Garrison
Ballard Tanev

Alberts

Schneider
Luongo

All reliable players. Cap friendly with 3 mil to spare. Will get us into the playoffs. No need to do anything if nothing comes along.

Next year Raymond and Malhotra come off the books to add 5 more mil to Burrows /Edler.

I agree, it makes zero sense for Van to send him there where he could come back to haunt them. Probably just out there to try to drive up price with Florida.

The media storm is going to be overwhelming if Luongo is still on the nucks roster come the start of the season. Will become a huuuuuuge distraction to the entire team. Gillis hands tied again knowing this.

He signed an extension not sure for how long, prob 2-3 yrs but it doesn't really matter...

Gillis would have to go into the WPP if Luongo was succesful in Chgo or for another main rival.

"Semi" is the operative word....a couple of prospects and Frolik and Olesz ok...But to give up anything that is really useable today would be crazy. Look who the Hawks got for Campbell and adjust accordingly.. And now Fla is not $30 mill under the cap and either is anyone else that would want Lu.

Say it ain't so. I don't want Lu. But I recognize he is a quality goalie. If i WERE to consider trading for him, his contract is an albatross...sort of like Soupy's. It IS a salary dump trade. The reasonable trade would be Frolik and Montidor, plus some Morin level prospect to give Gillis something to tout to the media. God forbid, not Bolland.

You also need to consider these trades in terms of the cap. Not saying that Doan is going to either the Hawks or Nucks. But moving Lu opens up or closes cap space. So if Hawks add Lu, think of it in terms of trading all the parts of the trade deal...plus Doan, as they will have committed an extra $3m to the G position, taking that cap space away from using it on a UFA forward. And if we take Lu off the hands of the Nucks, then think of them as getting all our trade parts...plus Doan. They will have freed up space for Doan. (I know Doan's more than $3m, but hopefully it makes my point by using a guy both teams have rumored interest in).

Media is easy to fix. Answer the same typical response time after time until they get tired asking it. Just act as if you don't care.

You want the media to keep away just bore them to death.

"Yeah Corey and I get along great .We make a good pairing". How often do you think they will ask that if they are winning and get the same response time after time.
