Leddy for an injury prone power forward on the down swing of his career? There needs to be more on Dallas's end to make that fly.

It might be me, and I'm no scout, but I'm cautious and skeptical when it comes to goalie prospects. I am not sold on the greatness that is Jonathan Bernier.

I saw him play in the Q and liked him then, think he displays the type of game that fits the present prototype, but he aint won anything, played and entire year as a half time guy, and granted Quick helped delegate his limited exposure, but you aren't getting a game tested pro, just a maybe might be....

Not doubting what you are reporting, but hard to get my head around how the Hawks could be soooo screwed by Suter/Leddy's agent that they want to be vindictive on Leddy for it.

While Rocky has done some wonderful things, this is still an organIzation that iced Robert Marvin Hull for years. The possibility an agent has pissed off the club and a trade happens is not just a Hawks thing. This happens more frequently with the outright release of players in other sports. Maybe, Leddy can bring more than Hj..., or maybe he is just the third puck moving defensemen and this makes him trade bait....or maybe, this agent screwed the pooch and you get something now and trade the kid.

I think it's a little unfair to call Bernier a "prospect". Does that mean every backup that hasn't been afforded a great deal of playing time because the #1 is great should be considered a prospect now? Bernier is a NHL caliber goalie. Much more so than anything else that is available (with the exception of Lu of course) outside or inside the Hawks organization. Comparing Crawford & Bernier's statistics may add a little clarity. Bernier 2.44GAA 0.916SV%, Crawford 2.79GAA, 0.909SV%.

In all fairness though Crawford has played 4 more seasons in his professional career so I'll just compare their stats from that last 3 years. Bernier 2.04GAA, 0.926SV%. Crawford 2.68GAA, 0.911SV%. Both goalies have been very consistent throughout their respective careers but it's pretty clear who the better goalie is and who I would prefer on the Hawks, not to mention that Bernier is 4 years younger with arguably much more potential.

Crawford has won 64 games plus 5 playoff games

Bernier for all his "NHL caliber ability" that you have stated has played in NO Playoff games...

I agree there needs to be more added to balance out but it's intriguing considering Doan most likely won't be coming here, IMO.

Morrow is of the same mold as Shane but like you said has injury issues. Maybe add in Fistric (where's Ogi?) haha.

I am tired of the Bernier talk,unless it is for prospects alone, not named Saad.

So in summary it sounds like you guys won't give up a lot to get a proven vet like Lu and you guys won't give up a lot to get a highly touted NHL-ready prospect in Bernier either. Seems to me Stan is not the only one unwilling to 'overpay' to get what they want/need

1; A team can't just "screw the cap"; throw caution to the wind & just spend. It doesn't always work. It placates fans at first but winning ultimately satisfies. 2. There has to be a plan and I don't even know what that is, neither does anyone else, even JJ & Al. Making changes for the hell if it isn't effective. Activity & accomplishment sometimes are not congruent. 3. The proper players for whatever system is employed, must be acquired. Payroll could be at the cap, go over with bonuses (2010 'Hawks), or be $11M under the cap.
