Doesn't matter anyway. Mrs. O'Leary's cow did not start the fire.n That's BS folklore just like the way the city's "windy" nickname.
- blackhawk24

But the fire DID start in the O'Leary's barn on DeKoven Street (south side).

It was sorely needed many decades ago, specically during the war when my Mom did hard labour supporting the war effort: Not finishing HS, supporting the family and working 75 hrs a week in unpleasant conditions. The last 40 years unions have been less valuable. In the private sector, I can see some value. Public? No, NO and NOOO !! Look at any state that's going broke, including this one.

Yep - it's all labor's fault - can't fault any other group for using whatever power they have to get what they want - only labor is too powerful.

Jaeckel, almost everything you've put out over the last month and a half has been speculation driven from public press conferences and or inferences made towards possible trades and moves that can be easily rumored by anyone - a source this and a source that... In the wake of all of the inactivity from the Blackhawks, I'd simply ask you to reconsider your sources and the strength of what you are getting. It's not hard for the in-tune Hawk fan to give most of what you have to us. I appreciate your work but would ask you to validate your content or write when there is actual news, not just to post a blog daily here or to promote the radio show.

The negotiation should have started with the current CBA. What works what doesn't. The players bring the product to the ice and therefore deserv a higher percentage. I think the cap is good but needs to be a soft and a hard cap.

Example: 70 mil is the soft cap and the hard cap would be 10% or 77 mil. Any team going over the soft cap pays a luxury tax and no team should go over the hard.

I'm also in favor of a forgive clause which allows a team to scratch 1-3 players from the cap. If we had campbell we would scratch his contract and he would have stayed instead of being traded.

Perhaps internet sports rumor messages broads just are not your thing? If you're going to female dog and complain about JJ, it's obvious you need to find better ways to spend you time.

My wife and all the other neighbor's wives spend their free time scrap-booking. They even take weekend trips together to do it. I'm sure they spend time female doging and complaining about us guys while doing it.

It sounds like a perfect fit for you.

lmfao , 6.12 , not 7.12 , duhhhhhh , my bad. Dude is still a nimrod , because we are all here for the entertainment and occasional insider hit , and to BS about hockey all year long. The only thing Ive ever seen JJ guarantee was that Hossa was signing with the Hawks , and that actually happened. I think JJ , hears from his guys with the team , lets us know what he hears and thats it. If Dude is looking for a crystal ball this web site is only batting .005 , and EKlund follows all the real insiders so that I don't have to. When a real reporter reports something EK throws and E5 on it and I can get all my legitimate news in one place. E4 might as well be an E negative -9000 . and E5 means something was reported by Bobby Mak or Dreger or someone real.

Yes, so we can wait until after a deal is made to read about it here. If you'd been paying attention for the last few years (at least) you'd know that JJ has a few sources and always reports on what he knows with caveats, if necessary. Just because a deal doesn't go through, doesn't mean it isn't in the works. He broke Hossa before anyone, BTW. Perhaps you'd be better entertained reading Jessie Rogers...

I do agree that we could use more co-operation between management and unions, but that's not the American way: competing interests run the engine, with both sides believing they are caught in a zero-sum game.

It isn't - and, as you say, time for negotiations to recognize that.

- StLBravesFan

Yeah. Sorry for the rant. These work stoppages piss me off. They are so unnecessary imo.

- StLBravesFan

It's believed by many, including my Great Grandfather that the fire did indeed start in that close proximity. Though difficult to fully ascertain due to the very dry conditions & cool weather, many fireplaces were in operation at that time. Embers from several fireplaces became airborne, spread by windy conditions, so it was difficult which one(s) produced the deadly trigger and the exact location.

But yes, the area of DeKoven St a few blocks West of what we know today as the S. Loop and approx, the intersection of Jefferson St. and Roosevelt Rd.

EDIT: Amazing how its so fascinating, yet a fire, so much larger, that killed 10x more people, occurred in N. WI at about the exact same time.

The spot is now inside the Fire Academy, just north of Manny's.
