I think Benn does add more but it seems to be somewhat of a wash. Its that we have a few holes up front. I think by trading Kane and maybe adding something we can fill 2 holes up front. Another center and a forward with size. I'm just using the philly trade as an example of what I would like. Simmonds isn't elite but he would help. Schenn was considered a sure-fire top prospect. Were either of them elite at the time of the trade? Probably not. How about a top 8 pick and voracek? Would that be an acceptable return to you? Just curious? - tomcat24
You trade elite talent for elite talent. You sign players like Simmonds during free agency to fill spots without giving up assets to get them.
Kane for the 8th overall pick? Are you a 100% sure you can replace him with that pick? If you can't, you just screwed yourself. |

stan bowman would be an awesome starting pitcher for either the cubs or sox. why not? looks like he's good at throwing no hitters! i'm done for the nite!!!!!!
i'm thinking about trying to get a tix for that convention just so i could
A) watch bowman get grilled
B) watch bowman try to turn the "kids" spin
C) watch MCD parade roberto luongo in
D) see bowmans step up and big trade aquisition of consequence
E) none of the above
F) all of the above - wonthecup10
It will be B or D.
A won't happen because there are too many sheep in the flock attending.
C won't happen, unless Gillis wants to take just about every garbage contract the Hawks have in return for him. Gillis isn't getting anything of value for Luongo.
E and F just are not going to happen. |

Dallas traded Neal in order to get Goligoski because they were desperate for a puck moving defenseman.
Shero really came out on top in that deal. |

Sadly...it's most likely B. |

And to think we could've gave them leddy then for Ott or maybe Neal at that time. |

Start comparing their stats when Bernier plays a workload not an occasional...
Bernier has won 20 games
Crawford has won 64 games plus 5 playoff games
Bernier for all his "NHL caliber ability" that you have stated has played in NO Playoff games... - wiz1901
Again, that is why their career stats were compared. As far as winning playoff games goes Crawford has lost more than he has won so that is really not an argument there.

Leddy was barely playing in the league when the Neal trade happened. That wouldn't have worked.

Neal is a 30goal 1 dimension player. He had attitude problems here. Yea we lost the trade, but Neal's numbers have a lot to do with malkin. |

I cant believe i will be forced to watch another year of hawks hockey were the star players get physically abused other than seabs
Toews better learn how to fight to protect himself since stan is incapable of getting skilled grit to play with the top 6
Kane as 2c without a power forward is setting him up for failure or a really bad injury from someone taking a run at him |

His numbers may be a bit inflated with playing with Crosby and Malkin, but I'm sure Neal could be productive on his own. |

Agreed. Benn isn't going anywhere. I'm surprised that you think Lehtonen would be available, at least now. Given the free agents Dallas signed, trading Lehtonen right now would almost seem like Dallas is throwing in the towel. Beyond Lehtonen, you have Bachman, who obviously can't carry the load. I'd also think Campbell is not ready to slide into the #1 spot in the NHL.
If Dallas is out of the running come February, I could maybe see Lehtonen getting dealt. - EKolb13
I would love to keep him. But I think the stars want a 3 year deal to groom Campbell in and Kari wants a 5 year deal. |

I think playing down here he maxed out. I think that's why joe chose him over benn to move. Not to mention he was too cockey for this team, he honestly thought he ran the show. |

If that's a problem for you, perhaps yo should find something else to do. Maybe a good hobby? I hear scrapbooking is popular. Not a lot of physical abuse in that. |

So in summary it sounds like you guys won't give up a lot to get a proven vet like Lu and you guys won't give up a lot to get a highly touted NHL-ready prospect in Bernier either. Seems to me Stan is not the only one unwilling to 'overpay' to get what they want/need - moylander
That's about the long and the short of it here. Everyone wants a good player but hardly anyone want's to pay what is required. They all want to send Frolik, Bickell, and the hot dog vendor for Luongo, but most are ready to pay 5 mil/per for a 36 year old power forward for 4 years.
Many were also wanting to draft a goalie in the first round this season but now don't want to send a 1st rounder and a good prospect like Morin, etc to get a highly touted goalie that is already NHL ready who would have a much quicker impact for the hawks than any goalie they could have taken in the draft.

Although I agree I think you will get little buy-in here.
My take on your (hypothetical) question:
Simmonds is already a spitting image of Hartnell except younger, faster, and better on the boards. He had 28 goals (11 pp goals) and is tough as nails. For example he took a puck off his face in practice, got stitched up with 17 stitches iirc, same day he laces up the skates for game time and during the game busted up face and all gets in a fight protecting his teammates.
Schenn is physical and plays a lot like Mike Richards. Has a ways to go still. He's my breakout player for the flyers this season. Write this down..... He's getting 50+ points this season. This kid doesn't know how to quit.
Also.... combined they are a $4.9 cap hit, actual salary paid is about $3 million. Don't forget the flyers got Nick Cousins with the 3rd round pick from that trade. 88 points in the OHL last season.... projects to be a physical 3C with a knack for getting under the opponents skin.
Not only would a trade like that free up cap space for the hawks, but it provides two bigger, more physical players in the top 6 and a prospect.

Stalberg-Schenn-Hossa
Yeah, I'd give up Kane in a trade like that. Fortunately for me and the rest of us flyer fans, homer won't give up assets like Simmonds and Schenn for Kane (or Nash or Ryan).

He's still young enough for a 5 year deal. At worst, when Campbell is ready to go, Lehtonen should still have trade value. |

He was a defensemen for the Blues. He played 42 games between the '81-'82 and '82-'83 seasons. |
