They have to ditch these magical 2 and 3 years plans and promises associated with them. Its pure crap. Lets face it, to win the cup you have to be good over a certain period of time and get a little lucky too.

Tom be good you need...

-Resources financailly and be will to spend them
-Good at drafting
-Good at retaining good players
-not overspending to the cap
-Good at aquiring free agents
-Have a desirable destination for free agents based on both a good place to live and a good hockey culture.

We have the first 2 down, not sure about the rest.

Then from there you just have to hit your stride in the playoffs. IE see LA and NJ this year. You cant to the typical Buffalo put your best team ever together for 1.5 years and then let it fall apart.

Formula as follows:

Good team over X amount of years = exponential increase in cup winning chances.

Well we missed the playoffs and haven't been out of the first round in 5 years. Aging star goalie. No real league superstar that anyone would want to play with. I'd say we're at ground zero.

i love that show as well, but stupid viacom took comedy central off direct tv. not happy.

but NJ and LA have none of those things. they got a little lucky. theres no hockey culture for the most part in NJ, they're too close to NYI NYR and PHI. LA will always be last compared to the lakers and dodgers. you dont NEED to have all those things to win the cup. Obviously having them puts you at an advantage but its not a necessity. this "typical" buffalo team COULD win a cup.

I agree that NJ was lucky, and LA just got good this year, however look at Det, Pitt, Boston and Philly this year. Good for a few years, didnt do sqaut in the playoffs this year but they will be right back in the hunt next year. We have just as good if not better financial resources than they do. There is no reason we cant be in the running for the cup every year, we just have to get our heads out of our asses and stop trying so hard to undo the mistakes of 41 years of no cups and just go with the flow and do what the other good teams do.
