you guys arent a rebuilding team yet. Maybe you should have when Burke took over that mess and turned it into an even bigger mess. How Seguin and Dougie Hamilton doing? They're with the Leafs right?
- Boinker

No. They are in the Bruins system actually. You follow the NHL right?

Absolutely, Why in their right mind would Toronto trade a rookie dman that had a decent first season for a Gold Medal winning vezina candidate goaltender? Sounds even dumber when you write it down. Anyone who has watched a leafs game knows how stacked they are in net. People on here undervalue Gardiner big time, honestly the fact that someone would have the audacity to purpose such a lop sided trade discusts me.
- Oilersforlife

Because the goalie is in his mid 30's and the budding star defenseman is 10 years younger. Take your socks off when counting fingers and toes son.

The Canucks 'throw away' GMs. (The ones who brought in the talent Gillis has been successful with)
- Deeps27

Gillis resigned all of them for below market value....something your other GMS have a tough time doing. That created cap room for incredible depth and pretty much the reason why this team is so good.

Sharp is a better shooter and probably just better all around offensively but I'd take burrows defensive game and intangibles and he still scores at 25-30 goal pace.

Burrows means a lot to the Canucks but Sharp is the better player hands down. Also if Ian thinks he should be untouchable be happy he's not Gillis.

I'm willing to let him walk next year if he wants market value. I love him but if he's expecting 4.5+ than I'm fine with him getting paid somewhere else. He's valuable but he's also getting older and the canucks have some young wingers that will be taking over.

And only one of them has a Cup...no prize for second place in the NHL, but I'm sure your President's Trophy banner raising will be a night to tell your Grand kids about. (Just as I've heard about the Leafs Cups from mine...sounded spectacular)

I think at the end of the day they get a deal domne in the 3-4 million range for 4-5 years.

Burrows loves the city. I can see him taking a bit of a pay cut to stay.

Oh Please...your going to throw Horcoff out there?

Horcoff has a gross contract but he has more heart and character than Burrows, Kesler, Lappierre put together!

Burrows is NOT as good as sharp. Sharp is more versatile and can play any forward position. Burrows is only a 30 goal scorer because he plays with the Sedins.

Put Sharp with the Sedins and he would score 40+

Sharp was a 35+ goal scorer when Toews and Kane were rookies

Burrows only put up 1 30 goal season and thats when Henrik won the Hart and scored 100+ pts that season

I hope so. But he already took a discount on his last contract. I think he needs to look out for himself this time.

In regards to Burrows for Sharp, all I'll say is that when you have a top line that clicks, a player that has provided some clutch goals when the team needed them and a guy who the team seems to like, why trade him for another player just because? What if Sharp doesn't fit with the Sedin's? What if he doesn't fit with Kesler? I can't stand Burrows, but he has a clearly defined role that he excels in with the Canucks. The problem isn't him.

It just seems like trading for the point of trading. Oh, and adding some salary.

Burrows is an excellent complimentary top 6 player, when he sticks to playing hockey. Edge is edge and needed in his game, but it goes sideshow too often for a coach not to worry about what distraction he'll provide or take an unnecessary penalty at an inopportune time. Sharp > Burrows, however, by a good margin.

I agree Burrows will probably take a discount to stay here, and when his contract is up he will no longer be on the top line, but I like how you can slot him in anywhere in the lineup and you know what you will be getting.
My concern is with the twins
How many more years are they going to play for, are they going back to Sweden when contract up?
When they are no longer top line, who will be stepping up to be the top line? I have high hopes for the young kids, but they are still unproven talent and we don't have that can't miss prospect.

But, but, but...it's already been acknowledged on this thread that Gillis inherited his players from the Burke/Nonis regime. Re-signing them at any number is inconsequential. At least he did WIN a Cup, roster inheritance or not...and Pronger/Niedermayer were both Burke additions in ANA.
