yeah, i would like weber on this team but not if it's going to kill the teams depth. we already lack scoring, trading steps would only add to that problem. - tomburton99
I tossed out the scenario of using Kreider, in the event we trade Stepan, at center.
However, lets look at it this way, are the Preds a high scoring team? Nope. But theyve consistently been a playoff contender every year, unlike us (until this year).
Hagelin, Richards, Callahan
Kreider, Dubinsky, Anisimov (in whichever combo you would like)
Pyatt, Boyle, _______
Asham, Halpern, Rupp
McDonagh, Weber
Del Zotto, Girardi
Erixon, Stralman
That forward line up looks really...
But the defense looks
A trade for Weber means we NEED to sign Semin. |

If you consider Gaborik a 40-goal guy, and I do, then you almost have to call Nash a 40-goal guy as well. Gabby has 3, in 11 seasons and as you said Nash has 2 in 9. I go to talent level. No doubt in my mind Nash has 40-goal talent that just isn't realized in Columbus.
Take this for what it's worth: Nash's career shooting percentage is 12.7 and he has exceed 300 shots in each of the last two seasons. If he had simply hit his career shooting % average he would have netted 39 goals in each of the last two seasons. In fact, prior to the last two seasons where he posted marks of 10.5% and 9.8%, Nash's career shooting % was 13.4%. If he had that mark the last two seasons he would have hit 41.
Shooting % can vary pretty dramatically from year-to-year so it's quite likely a progression to his career mean could well happen. I think he's ben a victim of being a one-man show in Columbus too much and team's defense and goaltending focus on him reducing the effectiveness of his shots. Just my guess but I think if he was in NYC he would be a 40-goal scorer, no doubt. That being said I am not necessarily advocating for the trade you mentioned to be made. - gkmkiller
That is an awful lot of "ifs".

you'd be able to add Gabby in there in a couple months and maybe Miller/Thomas/St. Croix/Fasth/whatever prospect makes the leap if there is any.
i feel like every year a surprise prospect makes the jump. like no one expected MDZ to make it when he did...same with stepan and hags. |

Here's the crazy thought of the day: Sign Semin to a two-year, $12 million deal and immediately turn around and flip him and Dubinsky with our first to Columbus for Nash. We save money on the cap, get the guy we want, Columbus gets their two forwards for Nash and Semin gets to play 22 minutes a night in all situations. Win-win-win, right? - gkmkiller

Miller would be part of the Weber trade...
However, I think Fasth is the next to make the jump. Theres also that kid Kyle Jean who has been written about during the developmental camp. |

Miller will be part of a trade for Weber.
Id love to part with Erixon instead of Miller, but I find it hard to believe they dont demand Miller. |

would we have enough cash to sign him. gotta think Weber gets 7.5 million. Remember, Kreider, Hagelin and Mcd all need to get paid next year. Keeping dubi on the roster is |

Yep, its a really bad poop storm we would have coming our way. Weber would get probably closer to 8.5mil per year unless they can figure out some magical way to circumvent and bring it down a lot. |

yeah..... Weber might cause as many problems as he fixes at 8.5 million. That's probably too much top end money.
2013-14 is when we need to resign the core guys like hags, mcd and kreider. here's a list of the top end money with weber.
weber at 8.5
gaborik at 7.5
lundqvist at 6.85
richards at 6.66 |

well, this is probably the last chance to acquire him and be able to sign him to a 13 year deal with three 500K years at the end of it to lower the cap hit before they stop that little feature. |

If the cap doesnt go to 70 million, we physically cannot afford Weber without losing McDonagh the following year. |

how are we going to lose McDonagh? he isn't going to be a UFA.
They are going to make second NHL contracts more restrictive, McDonagh ain't going nowhere |

weber's great but mcdonagh has only scrathced the surface of what he can be. So we would trade steps, staal, miller, plus picks and lower prospects for weber. now you're telling me we wouldn't be able to keep mcd. sorry no deal. |

Not saying we lose him for nothing, but if the cap does not go up... and Weber signs for 8.5 AAV, we simply will not have the cap room to keep him. We would need to get rid of 1 or 2 guys to make it happen. Then youre stuck trying to figure out a Hagelin contract too. |

it'll work out
what about giving Weber an 18 year contract where the last 6 years are for 75 cents each. |

If Semin took a crap in a NYC Bar, there would be rumors that he was at some high end restaurant in NYC having a meeting with NYR brass. |

Weber is 27
give him the same exact deal that the Devils did Kovalchuk, get the cap hit around 6.6666666666 million a year, and we are golden.

Except the max was 11 mil for Kovy... max now is 12 mil... plus Kovy got 6 mil for the first 2 years of the contract to keep the team cap compliant.
Weber will get something like Suter, except Weber will get the max for like 4 years rather than 2. |
