I don't know if thats confirmed but highly likely. I think he had 2 in front of him but I dont think it was this big city bullpoop hes spoonfeedign the media. I truly think Flyers blew the Rangers out of the water with that insane contract.

They cant lower it to 50 million, that would absolutely SCREW 1/3 of the NHL big market teams.
- aecliptic

it would screw every team other than the yotes and pres this year.

The $ isnt insane, its the way its structured that is. Its all the bonuses and guaranteed $ made Weber salivate. He knew pretty much no other team would put in an offer like that.

With us being one of them. If you all think Sather is some catholic school boy that wasn't thinking about/put in an offer sheet out of the goodness of his heart a) your crazy and b) I dont want my GM running a team that way.

If putting in an Offsheet for a player and paying the signed contract + givign up the compensation makes the team better than do it. As long as you are aware you can be pouched as well and you are prepared to make enemies... All is fair in love and war.

I believe I saw that as well. And Philly may like to think ti was their city and team that was > than the Rangers but it was that contract my friend.. We all would do the same thing if we could get that $ playing in a hockey town for a stanley cup competitor. With that contract, I woulda taken flyers too

I know Sather isnt a saint, and am not surprised that Sather was ready to put in an offer sheet... but I doubt Sather's offer sheet would be structured with all that guaranteed money... the 1m salary and 13m in signing bonus stuff.

pretty sure he wouldve picked philly if NY offered him that same deal based on his comments about being a small town guy and feeling alienated from his teammates living in manhattan

You dont have to doubt or wonder. He obviously didnt, ergo Weber signed in Philly... That NYC not for me bullpoop is just so he can justify taking the monster contract.

the whole reason it was structured like that was to disuade nashville from matching

what's the point of putting in an offer sheet that the other team could easily match?

It would have been structured like that. That's pretty much how the Richards contract is structured. $2 million in salary with a $10 million or $12 million bonus or something to that effect.

if there is a lockout, and Flyers owner Ed Snider is vocal about the need for fiscal restraint and the need to lower the length of contracts for the good of the league, "sneaky" won't be the word you hear from me, I guarantee you that.

My plan to get Evander Kane...

6 year contract.

yr 1: 1m salary, 9m signing bonus
yr 2: 1m salary, 9m signing bonus
yr 3: 3m salary
yr 4: 3m salary
yr 5: 3m salary
yr 6: 3m salary

Lets see WPG sign onto that with a season on the brink.
