Scott Howson needs to be made aware that Shane Doan costs no players and is visiting the Rangers right now.

if so, thanks, but no thanks. Given expected fall in cap and other needs, way too much, but if was solely about the money, he would have already signed following that rumored offer

He would be a perfect fit for the Rangers, but quite frankly, I expect him to be about a 50 point (25 goals/25 assists) type guy for the next couple of seasons. 4 years/$30 million is just insane. 4 years/$20 million would be a little steep, but well worth it, IMO.

Katie Stang interviewed him the other day at the NHL/NHLPA meetings and he basically said money won't be a factor and that a team trying to outbid another team to "impress" him, won't work. He said he will decide when it's time and he will start meeting with other teams when he becomes uneasy about the Phoenix situation. Guess he feels its time to move on.

Let's hope for 3 years, no more than $5.5m cap hit. Doan is such a great fit here.

Wouldn't it be nice if they could sign Doan, and still find away to fit Nash in as well? Or is that just impossible?

I hope we didn't offer him $30m. But I don't think it's about the money with him, if it was he would have signed with someone already. If he likes us then he'll sign here.

I don't think it's impossible, provided enough money went back to Columbus in the trade

Sign Doan.

Trade Dubinsky to Nashville for Mike Fischer.

Trade Derek Stepan, Tim Erixon and 1st rounder for Nash.

Call it a summer.

I don't know about you, but I think a Doan signing puts the leverage right back in the Rangers corner, in regards to Nash.

If they can somehow land both and somehow maintain Stepan, in the process, this team is going to be as solid as any offensively.

A potential top six of: Nash-Richards-Gaborik & Kreider/Doan-Stepan-Callahan

Can you imagine having to stick Doan on the third line with Boyle-Hagelin?

Is there a better top nine in the league, if this were to happen?

Seeing that this is Doan's first visit, with a team of interest, makes me think that this scenario can play out in their favor.

In an interview a couple of weeks ago, his agent specifically referenced "that team in Manhattan" as a place where Doan would have interest. Hopefully, they blow him away, and he doesn't even bother taking any other visits.

Sather has to see that signing Doan gives them leverage to go all in on a Nash deal.

Having Doan in tow will allow the Rangers to throw in an extra roster forward or prospect forward in the deal.

The Rangers would be nothing to mess with if they can get these two for an exchange of perhaps Dubinsky, Anisimov/Hagelin, Thomas/Miller and a first round pick.

The slashes indicate either or not both,

unfortunately, i think sather has been offering a similar package this entire time and hasn't gotten howson to bite.

if howson doesn't get what he wants, i 100% believe he will just keep rick nash as a blue jacket.
