No, Pronger's cap hit is not counted in since they are going to put him on LTIR, then they are fine. - _Zippy_
Can they do that even if his deal was a +35? Seems like another thing that if true the league would want to eliminate. |

True but I'll be honest, if Nashville doesn't match, I will feel more pressure to add Nash or Ryan. Hell, I was going over scenarios that would see us get Nash or Ryan with Dan Boyle.
How's this?
To San Jose: Gaborik, Anisimov
To Rangers: Pavelski, Boyle
Then:
To Anaheim or Columbus: Dubinsky, Pavelski and perhaps a first or other prospect (not named Miller or Erixon)
To Rangers: Ryan or Nash
In the Pavelski to Anaheim scenario we end up with Boyle and Ryan and save over $2 million on the cap. In the Nash scenario we break even more or less on the cap.
Now, does this improve us? Yes, but by how much? Really we replace Gaborik with either Ryan or Nash, lose two guys who are 3rd liners at worst (Anisimov and Dubi) and get Boyle. We do keep our depth at D and actually improve it but are we that much better offensively? I don't know.
I do know that we are in a bit of a bind no matter what we do. We need more scoring to take that next step. Does it come internally? maybe. Does it come externally? Who knows. If Philly gets Weber I almost think we have to make a big move or two. - gkmkiller
I agree the Rangers do need an upgrade in offense. And maybe now with Weber off the market the Rangers will turn their attention elsewhere. With Doan still "weeks" away form deciding I am interested to see where they go. I just don't see Howson lowering his demands. The guy seems set to get equal value for Nash. Like you say, It may take a 3 team trade or so to get it done at this point. |

I love Weber but I am not upset the Rangers didn't land him. He is a great player but not really a huge need for the Rangers. Let Philly pay him with that 14 year deal and 4 first rounders. - TPC
Truth be told I would have done it. Four late first-rounders? Chances are only two of them will turn into NHL players and just a 50% chance either of those two will be any good. The cap hit is a bit pricey but Weber will be a good player for at least 8 - 10 of those years. We'd have that many excellent chances to contend for the cup. The next two or three years we'd have to be considered the team to beat with Weber on the blue line and other moves that would have allowed us to make. |

I think what makes the offer sheet acceptable this time, even in the eyes of Burkie, was that it appears both the Flyers and Rangers spoke with Poile about it before hand. Now correct me if I am wrong but as an RFA with his rights still controlled by Nashville, Weber can only visit with other teams with the Preds approval. That means he was engaged with the Flyers, Rangers and perhaps Red Wings and Sharks as well in discussions about a potential trade. I'm sure the possibility of an offer sheet was raised during those discussions as well as a way to stimulate the trade discussions. Burke's biggest problem with the Penner offer sheet was that it came out of the blue supposedly. - gkmkiller
I don't think that's true. I think after July 1 he can meet with and visit anyone he pleases. |

Just for the summer cap. It's not clear to me if they have enough room in the summer cap to sign Voracek, who's the last real piece up in the air. |

Involving Gaborik in any trade scenario is not likely. He won't waive his no-trade clause. But if they did, all the Rangers accomplished there is giving up their best goal scorer for another top goal scorer.
Makes little sense, I will be totally honest, I think the Rangers don't do anything trade-wise.
Maybe they overpay for Doan but I don't see Sather parting with valued youngsters for either Ryan or Nash |

Yup, if they just place him on LTIR, it doesn't matter. If he retires, his cap hit will count. You know the Flyers will just keep saying he won't be fit enough to play and he can lie if he wants about his concussions and still get paid 5 million a year. It is just as bad as signing a long-term contract. |

even though slats doesn't believe in offer sheets, i wouldn't mind seeing him throw one out to Evander Kane. Maybe offer just south of 6 million, it wont happen but it's nice to dream. |

I agree to a point. I can see a Dubi+ for Boyle deal. I really think the Rangers need a reliable top-4 defenseman who can contribute on the PP and Boyle fits the bill. That gives the Rangers the following on the blue line:
McD-Girardi
Staal-Boyle
MDZ-Stralman
That's pretty solid and gives the Rangers two reliable pairs defensively and some offense too. MDZ will get some minutes on the PP too so he can still expect close to 20.
If you like Erixon that much then you can either move him or one of Staal/MDZ for a scoring F. To me that's not a bad D corps and allows the club to add a lower scoring option perhaps at the deadline. |

That makes me excited. But not sure where the offense is going to come from. Hopefully players like Kreider, Dubi, Hagelin, and AA can take a big leap forward. |

The way it looks they won't need to lie. His vision in that eye went from 20-20 to 20-200. He isn't cleared to drive, let alone skate. His wife says it would just be nice for him to have a few good days in a row. |

You think the Jets wouldn't match? I would be stunned if the Jets allowed Kane to sign elsewhere; when they have the power to block, so to speak.

Big steps forward for Hagelin, Anisimov, Stepan, Dubinsky and Kreider would go a long way in help rectifying that issue.
Still a lot to be decided; it's only mid-late July! |

woke up to news about a huge shooting at a viewing of the movie in Aurora Colorado, 14 people dead. YIKES.
Looks to be very close in location to Littleton, where the Columbine shooting was.
