I feel like either Nash to the Rangers heats up again or we push harder for Doan - Henrik's Crease

I love everyone who says NY is a big city, then when they come here and move to the suburbs, like CC Sabathia, realize that it's not as big as they first thought and easy to get lost in NY given all that's going around.
That excuse is such garbage and I hate hearing it. Play up in Montreal or Toronto and see what's it like if you struggle and if Weber thinks Philly will be any better, he's deluding himself. - airjan23
I used to live on Long Island and would go into the city for work and hated it because of all the traffic and horrible LIRR. Even living in the suburbs do you think there would be traffic going to the game? But I can't see it being any different in Philly. I never been to Philly but from what I hear its very crowded. If he likes the small town feel why not stay in Nashville, the country is all around him. |

or Ryan - jimbro83
Definitely think we try to put a creative package, perhaps some three-way trickery, to get either Ryan or Doan. I don't think we currently can meet the asking price for either Nash or Ryan so a third team may have to be included with prospect and or picks going for an NHL F and then that player being moved with Dubi and another prospect/pick for Nash. It isn't easy but unless we cave in and include Stepan then I don't think we can acquire either player at their current price. |

Well I guess Sather was seedy enough to offer Weber a similar contract. Kind of glad he chose Philadelphia; that contract is immense and would be hard to sign McDonagh and Lundqvist a few seasons down the line.

We don't know if it was contract offer or trade proposal, as rumor was that Nashville was in talks with several teams to trade Weber |

I think now is the time to trade for Ryan.
The other most likely destination would be Philly for him, and they are tied up for 7 days.

It's a 30 minute drive, mostly interstate, reverse commute, from the towns guys live in in NJ (near the practice facility) to the Flyers arena. You don't have to go through anything particularly urban. It's the young single guys who live in the city. For them it's a bit more traffic but only a 15-20 minute drive. And we have nothing that feels remotely as crowded or fast-paced as NYC. As for the practice rink--it's 20 mins for the center city guys across the bridge and reverse commute. For the guys in NJ burbs it's in their back yard. |

it sucks we got so close. imagine if sather pulled this offer sheet off...our defense would be unreal.
if we got him, we could've traded staal/girardi + dubi for nash. |

So now the best power play coach in the NHL gets Shea Weber to unleash his bombs from the point. WOW!! |

I think something will happen; just don't want to see this team get gutted just to keep up with the joneses. |

The defense would have sucked if that was the essential swap. Girardi is so underappreciated on this team it is unreal. |

Talk of the Predators wanting two first round picks and actual roster players is being bandied about the Internet.
I still think Poile matches though. |

Poile would want like Voracek/Read+Coburn and two first round picks. What's worth more, two proven NHL guys or two 20-30 first round picks? |

The proven players and picks are a better deal for the Predators, without question. If Nashville just gets picks for essentially Weber and Suter; the recovery process would be significantly longer than getting good young players that can help out now. |

I agree.
Last year he was over shadowed by McD, and the year before that, by staal. but hes been one of the most solid players on this team since way back when he was wearing good ole number 46.
No chance i would touch the Defense on this team right now, That isnt the problem. |

At the same time, why wouldn't the Flyers just offer sheet him.
Would the Rangers rather give up Anisimov and Del Zotto or two late first round picks? |

dude offer sheets are mean and only a scumbag like Holmgren would stoop to that level |

I think what makes the offer sheet acceptable this time, even in the eyes of Burkie, was that it appears both the Flyers and Rangers spoke with Poile about it before hand. Now correct me if I am wrong but as an RFA with his rights still controlled by Nashville, Weber can only visit with other teams with the Preds approval. That means he was engaged with the Flyers, Rangers and perhaps Red Wings and Sharks as well in discussions about a potential trade. I'm sure the possibility of an offer sheet was raised during those discussions as well as a way to stimulate the trade discussions. Burke's biggest problem with the Penner offer sheet was that it came out of the blue supposedly. |

No, Pronger's cap hit is not counted in since they are going to put him on LTIR, then they are fine. |

I love Weber but I am not upset the Rangers didn't land him. He is a great player but not really a huge need for the Rangers. Let Philly pay him with that 14 year deal and 4 first rounders. |

True but I'll be honest, if Nashville doesn't match, I will feel more pressure to add Nash or Ryan. Hell, I was going over scenarios that would see us get Nash or Ryan with Dan Boyle.
How's this?
To San Jose: Gaborik, Anisimov
To Rangers: Pavelski, Boyle
Then:
To Anaheim or Columbus: Dubinsky, Pavelski and perhaps a first or other prospect (not named Miller or Erixon)
To Rangers: Ryan or Nash
In the Pavelski to Anaheim scenario we end up with Boyle and Ryan and save over $2 million on the cap. In the Nash scenario we break even more or less on the cap.
Now, does this improve us? Yes, but by how much? Really we replace Gaborik with either Ryan or Nash, lose two guys who are 3rd liners at worst (Anisimov and Dubi) and get Boyle. We do keep our depth at D and actually improve it but are we that much better offensively? I don't know.
I do know that we are in a bit of a bind no matter what we do. We need more scoring to take that next step. Does it come internally? maybe. Does it come externally? Who knows. If Philly gets Weber I almost think we have to make a big move or two. |
