I don't think Torts and Semin will connect at all.

I have a hard time believing it too, but miracles do happen.

Not a chance he signs for 5m AAV.

However, he is a bit better than Gaborik as far as creating. Not so much for himself, hes kind of like Ovi in that respect in that he will just rip shots (with more confidence than Gaborik) but he can give a nice pass.

- NYRPowerPlay

What is AAV anyway? So he can play with like Arty and Dubi (just examples) to help them and we can get more balanced scoring.

i'm assuming AAV stands for average annual value. it's the cap hit.

So he's like Gaborik who can't really create offense on his own and needs someone to give him the puck. There were times during our series with them I saw him backchecking and other things like that. I wouldn't mind him on a deal like Glen suggested, 2-yeat $5m AAV. We have Richards, Step, and maybe even Arty who can give him the puck.

If it's 1 or 2 years for Semin and 5-6M per, I'd absolutely consider bringing him in. The guy has the talent to be one of the best players in the league. With Hunter, he became a better all around player and if you put him on a line with Step and Cally, he would be great IMO. He'd have two defensively minded forwards on his line, one who get him the puck and the other to work the corners/put in rebounds etc.

Kreider Richards Gaborik
Semin Stepan Callahan
Dubinsky Anisimov Hagelin
Pyatt Boyle Asham
Rupp, Haley

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Del Zotto
Erixon Stralman
Bickel

That has to be one of the deepest lineups in the NHL. BTW, I was watching videos of Pyatt on YouTube and we're gonna love this guy after his first shift. He hits HARD and he is fast. Feel like he is Brandon Prust without the fighting but with better hands.

Youre forgetting Halpern in there too. Id have Dubi taking the faceoffs over Arite. However, I think if some sort of deal is reached with Nash/Ryan/Semin, Dubi will be moved.

That's a good point, a lot like Hagelin when he was on the top line. And Step is similar to Backstrom so maybe that could work.

I don't see the Rangers signing Semin and trading Dubi unless it's for a veteran righty defenseman

Its been so publicly discussed how hard he has been shopped. The domino will fall eventually.

The first day of camp when he goes through a torts bag skate, he'll get on a plane back to russia. The guy is a head case, sure ill take him if the price is right but i dont see him working out in a defense first system

agreed. we're not as deep as we think and we found that out last year after we shipped away wolski and christensen. when a couple forwards went down with injuries, we were stuck playing bickell as a forward.

then again, we've made a few more depth signings and a prospect or 2 like miller/thomas could make the jump into the NHL.

Yeah. It's either he's packaged for an upgrade on wing if we don't get Doan or Semin, or, if we DO sign one of those two, he can be moved for a righty defenseman to be a stopgap for McIlrath/Erixon.

If none of this comes to fruition, Sather keeps him and we stick with what we have now and hope Dubi can bounce back, which isn't the worst case scenario.

The Semin debate is an interesting one. On one hand, it is major, major warning sign when one of his own teammates says "he could be the best player in the world, but for whatever reason he just doesn't care." On the otherhand, the prospect of acquiring someone with his type of talent on a short-term deal without having to give up the players personnel necessary to make a trade for Nash or Ryan is intriguing.

I can actually deal with players that are a little engimatic, so long as they raise their games when the chips are on the line. I think Alex Kovalev was that sort of player. He could drive you crazy, but he played his best in big games. Not really sure if Semin is the same type player, but I did thing he was pretty good this last playoff season as far as buying into Hunter's system.

Tough call. Major risk, but also some pretty significant upside if management makes the determination that the lockerroon is strong enough to take in a guy like him.

I don't think Dubi is getting traded, Sather has been shopping him for a while and no one's taking him. I can see the lines being something like:
Hags-Richards-Gabby
Krider-Step-Cally
Dubi-Arty-Semin
Pyatt-Boyle-Halpern
Rupp

The one guy brought up in previous discussions was Robidas. He has 2 years left on his contract @ 3.3 AAV, very good option to look at.

Theyre not gonna pay Semin 6mil to play with Dubi and Artie. How does it even make sense to do that? Artie is ok, but Dubi is frost bite to anyone that plays with him. Do you REALLY want to piss Semin off and play him with Dubi?

Also, Halpern was one of the best in the league on faceoffs last season, doubt he plays wing.

Just throwing names out there, I was thinking Arty because of the Russian factor and Dubi to help defensively and on faceoffs, but I guess you can replace Step or Krider with Dubi and that would be the 2nd line.

dubis not THAT bad haha. i mean he was god awful last season but i think he'll rebound to 20-30 goals this season for sure. he's got the talent and the skill it's just the consistency.

i don't know why last season was so dismal for him...maybe he had some personal issues or maybe he was battling an injury all season or maybe he just got off to a bad start and never recovered. but i think he's gonna go out there next season and prove himself.

i also think he should play on a line with cally cuz they have some great chemistry together.

It honestly doesnt matter right now, we dont have Semin and we all know Torts will try every line combination possible.

One thing Im sure of, if we do get a star player, theyll be playing with Richards until December/January.

I agree with you. I actually think Dubinsky has gone, in one year, from being overrated by the Rangers' fanbase, to now being really underrated. I am not saying that the Rangers shouldn't look to move him and that salary in the right deal, but at the same time, if he is with the Rangers next year, I think he has the potential to rebound to around the 50 point level.

He is not a terrible player. He does some things very well. He just had a terrible year.

yea i just wish nash gets traded somewhere already.

it's clear howson will only accept an elite player in return so i hope teams (not the rangers) start offering some of their elite guys. instead, howson is just getting packages of quantity instead of quality.

it's like if you were asked whether you'd rather bang 1 10/10 girl or 5 2/10 girls. which would you pick?
