if the Rangers had signed Weber to an offer sheet I would have been annoyed, because I really do think it's a waste of time and I do believe Nashville will match.
Probably make them all wait to last minute so Flyers have 7 days of not being able to make any other plans.
Flyers just assured Weber will be stuck in Nashville for 14 years. - jimbro83
It was not an offer sheet. It was a trade offer, with the idea of signing him. |

Hello!
@DarrenDreger: Breaking: Shea Weber agrees to offer sheet with Philadelphia. 14 years, upwards of $100 mil. Preds have 7 days to match. Wow!!
i think the flyers would have to send their 1st, 2nd and 3rd in next year's draft, right? - tomburton99
4 number ones? Makes our hosting the draft in 2014 a snoozer. |

These are classic Don Fehr tatics. he plays his cards close to the vest in the early going. Appearing to be calm, cool and collected. He asks his player reps to the same. He has Tom Glavine helping him communicate with the player reps and any other player who wants to be part of the process. Mark my words, this has just begun, don't mistake Fehr's approach, when he comes out with his 1st public comment about the ongoing talks, he'll have 10-15 players standing behind him, and he use words like "the notion" and "the clubs need to take a closer look" I'm waiting any minute now for Buttman to say "Don has to realize this is not baseball" trust me it will come. - OLDSCHOOL#6
I'm aware. But I think he knows what he's doing. He also knows it's not baseball. |

yeah I know, just saying I wouldn't have been happy with a Ranger offer sheet.
A trade I was all for.
I don't care how the Flyers worked this offer sheet, I think Preds will match.
Not sure why everyone thinks they are poor. |

Maybe the Preds will match, and because of the way the contact is front-loaded they will be more inclined to trade him. Maybe this could actually work in our favor. |

Nashville may not be able to afford Weber right now. He could be owed $26 million in one calendar year 2 mil salary, $12 mil bonus on the day he signed so he gets $12 mil the minute Nashville matches and another $12 mil the same day the next year.
Idk man, that's gonna be a tough pill to swallow for the Preds.
EDIT- And it's likely that the next season would be the same. I'm sorry, but I can't see the Preds paying Weber $40 million over two calendar years. They can't afford him at that price. - Henrik's Crease
It will be a tough pill to swallow for them as far as real money goes, but they also need to make the cap floor. What are they going to do if they let go of Weber? Sign a bunch of left over UFAs at overpriced salaries, just to meet the cap floor? |

Preds have 4 defensemen signed with NHL experience if they don't accept Weber offer sheet, and their top defenseman would be Hal Gill.
They would be about 17 million under the current cap floor.
There is no doubt in my mind they are matching. |

Wouldn't that just be sweet revenge, match and trade him to one of the Flyer's bitter rivals. That would be a real FU. But, IDK if I like this contract at all though.
Edit: Also, watch the NHL disqualify it. |

it does seem like the Flyers shouldn't get Weber and be stripped of the next 4 first rounders anyway for doing a contract like this. |

Thanks. If that's the case this contract enrages me. A signing bonus should be paid once, per contract. If the Devs got hit with one 1st round pick as penalty for the Kovy contract, Philly should get hit with 2 1st rounders. |

I think the Flyers should be forced to fold.

Parise/Suter deals were $98M/13, $25M SB over first three years. Richards got $60M/9, $28M SB over first seven years.

If #Preds match #Flyers offer, they must keep him 1 calendar yr before trying to trade him. Oh and pay him 27M in meantime. |

the preds can now only trade his rights to the flyers. if the do match, the preds will have to wait a year and then they can trade him to whoever they see fit. But i doibt any team will be willing take take on a 13 million dollar signing bouns. |
