[quote=Irish 14]Thoughts on the week of camp:
1) trade McNabb
2) we have some great young talent on paper, but will not win a Cup.
3) Ennis, McNabb and Adam + for Ryan
4) Sekera & Stafford for Stastny
5) it's time to be BOLD

No way two trades happen of that magnitude.
No way? Yea your right, no way we were going to trade Kassian

Went to the scrimmage tonight and here are my takeaways, in no particular order:
1) I barely even noticed luke adam, whatsoever out there
2) I was sooo high on brayden mcnabb and made a point to watch every shift from him..but he just looked awful imo. Out of position, lots of turnovers, no big hits, no real scoring chances. He did however seem to make the "right play" later on in the game...which i admire. I simple dump off the glass and into the neutral zone might not seem like a big deal, but its those types of plays that separate career ahlers from the big boys. saw an improvement in the 3rd, but in 1st and 2nd periods he just looked pathetic.
3) pysyk....absolute stud. Hes far and away our best d prospect. Outlet passes were crisp and tape to tape every time, and ALWAYS made the right play. Not overly physical, but thats not his game. Really love this kid now
4) Grigorenko is huge, and could be more of a passer than a goal scorer....not many chances from him tonight and he definitely seemed to wander way out of position a lot. I believe it was the 1st goal of the game that was a direct result of him not back checking
5) girgensons is a lot smaller than I thought he would be...went in for a big hit on lepkowski and he absolutely got embarassed (granted, lepkowski is huge)...he made some nice plays though
6) the girgensons armia grigorenko line should absolutely have no part of each other. too many guys that always want to touch the puck...they need to be separated or learn to benefit off each others skill. too many puck hogs on that line
7) armia....holds the puck too long and is perhaps too patient. puck hog tendencies but good shot
8) lepkowski is a beast. I thought we just picked him up at the draft in the 6th because hes a hometown kid but he shows a ton of promise....was a man among boys out there
9) foligno is a leader, and was controlling the tempo in the offensive zone. not too flashy, but his linemates werent of much help
10) catenacci is a total runt. he looks like a mouse out there...kinda like the way gerbe looks haha. as a center...I dont see him having a bright future with this organization. Hes too small and hes not nearly as fast as I thought he would be (fastest skater at the combine during his draft year)
11) leduc is a total risk taker but its risk reward...saw him get some great chances but also saw a couple of odd man rushes at his expense.
12) hodgson wasnt overly flashy but I liked his play..probably the fastest/most shifty players out there. Absolutely undressed a dman at the blue line entering the zone and got a good scoring chance on knapp
13) knapp looked better than lieuwen or however you spell it...good saves by both but a little hard to judge
14) frederick roy plays like his hair is on fire...very shifty and goes 100% every shift. tries to hit everything that moves but he is just so skinny. one time he tried to hit a hulking opposing dman (dont think it was lepkowski) and got dropped instead...lots of nice scoring chances though. I would FOR SURE sign him to rochester if possible...perhaps hes just a late bloomer
overall my biggest takeaway is that grigorenko appears to have a lot of skill but at times he does in fact look a little lazy and doesnt seem to be giving it his all. idk. also, he just doesnt seem to grasp that he needs to backcheck and play lindys system. his best bet to make the team would to be at wing imo
so thats it....granted it was just a scrimmage yada yada i get it...but you can still make good judgments

I was there also.........the main thing i took away....the hockey was awful. I know its July and they have been up at 430AM everyday working with the SEALS, but it was sloppy, no flow, slow..I was bored to tears.
I didnt even notice Grigorenko or Armia, they were invisible.
Girgonsons did have a sick goal and was by far the best player on that line.
Cantinacci an Roy played harder than anybody out there and it wasnt even close, IMO.
How about invitee Jamie Wise with the hat trick?! Good for him.
Overall I was very underwhelmed.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case in 29 other cities as well this Summer. Is it the potential labor issues? A few GMs asking for a king's ransom for guys like Ryan, Nash, etc.? I thought the flood gates would open up after Parise and Suter signed, but this is just awful. |

I heard it was Ennis for Ryan and I heard Ennis plus a youngster, that's not to much for Ryan. Here you have the reason why Darcy is and has failed as a GM, he overvalues his players. |

i was also there tonight, giving a little break to these guys based on the week they had....
i still thought grigorenko would show me more. he did make a sick pass to the point leading to a goal however.
girgensons is intense
armia was TERRIBLE imo. he made a handful of bad plays, he looked soft and lazy. got punched in the mouth on a little scrum in front of the net and wanted nothing to do with it. (i do know its a scrimmage but still)
mcnabb did not impress whatsoever, i agree with you that he did get better as the game went on.
hodgson should dominate something like this. he looked ok and had a few good shifts.
also agree on roy, he plays hard.
tropp and cattenaci had a nice burst in their step.
agreed with the foligno comment, his line defenitely controlled the ice when they were out there.
had some other thoughts on a few other guys i cant remember tho, had somewhat of a difficult time making out who was who lol, overall tho i think i was impressed more by the people i didnt go to see. that wise kid who scored the hat trick looked pretty good too. |

evening gents... I was at the scrimmage and let me say this first.... Fellas it was a SCRIMMAGE!! But let's begin. Number one the guy who stood out the most was Jamie Wise. Wow Was I impressed by him, he never stopped and at times even seemed like he would have fought his own players. Very impressive. Second, Mcnabb was sloppy as heck at first but really has a knack for the game. Pysyk, STUD!! Honestly Leduc looked pretty good as well. I didn't notice much from Armia but G and G, WOW! we really have something with them. Grigs made a BEAUTY of a pass for a score. Through a defensemans legs. Really was beautiful. Girgs doesn't stop out there just like Foligno. Speaking of Foligno, he was a man amongst boys. I'm in love Hodgson, we really have a good player there in my eyes. let's see what else.... Kea. HUGE!!!!!! and I'll be excited to see him develop. Oh and Catenacci, looks amazing the kid can fly.
Edit: also the Goalie with the last name that starts with a G , can't remember, was really impressive tonight. |
