What a stupid comment........with each free agent signing, the more Luongos contract looks like peanuts.....
10 years blah blah blah......any fan with a quarter of a brain knows that any team (including Vancouver) will not be on the hook for more than 5 years.
Its just the layman sheep that chugs down the daily media propaganda that Luo's contract is sooooo bad. If we don't get a decent deal, we keep Luo....I don't expect the moon but a reg hockey deal should suffice for an elite goalie......we will not take back poop, hence this saga dragging out...... - chompsey
if lu was signed for 5 years he would have been traded by now. obviously 10 years makes a huge difference, so it has nothing to do with having a quarter of a brain. gms know there is no guarentee that luongo will retire after 5 years. |

I agree, at the time it wasn't that bad of a deal. Obviously hindsight is 20-20, but it turned out to be a bad move. Same with the Kessel deal, if Burke would have known they were gonna be trading the #2 pick (especially with Hall & Seguin in there) he might want to have that one back.
It's funny, you look at all of Burkes deals and they seem like good move and I still think they are. But then you look at their line-up and it isn't all that impressive.
He's had a couple other bad signings, Armstrong, Connoly etc.
But the Leafs do have a lot of good prospects. If they pan out his term would be deemed a success, big IF though. - The-O-G
I hear ya, it's a tuff job, and i hate when ppl rip on burke...i wish they would give him their cyrstal ball they all own...Seguin is a good player but will he turn out to be a point producer that Kessel is on a not so great team?? ya know what, lets's just leave the Kessel thing to rest...im exhausted with that one...lol
he took chances on Connelly and Armstrong...it didnt pan out...but after Richards, Connelly was the best available out there...Burke makes his wrongs rights...lets see what happens this year with Connelly, hopefully he shuts us all up...if not he's done at the end of this year....

I think Vancouver would be better off just cutting bait and taking their best offer before they keep him. It would just be a huge distraction and would not work. Hell, i'd give him away for free before I kept him.

From Toronto you're probably looking at Colborne/Kadri and a 1st maybe? - Ranger71
Yeah I would like that return but I doubt Toronto would do that (depends on how desperate a team is for a goalie).
I think that is somewhat the asking price Lombardi is looking for though.
A Chicago fan earlier in the week mentioned somthing like Saad and a 1st so I would assume Lombardi will get a player of that caliber back but I really dont know what teams are willing to give back obviously. I wouldnt mind a Saad or a Kadri coming back though, of course |

I agree, the Connolly deal wasn't too bad either because it was just for 2 years. Kind of pricey but they needed a center and like you said he was the next best in line. If it were my decision I wouldn't have done it but at least you can see where he was coming from on that one. Besides, the list of players signed via free agency that lived up to their contracts is probably really short. Honestly I can't even think of anyone off the top of my head!!! |

nucks arent trading lu without taking a salary back. plain and simple. no GM is dumb enough to do that, the last trade i can remember was the gomez/mcdonaugh trade.
kadri/colborne + komisarek and maybe a 2nd. that's the max the nucks will get from the leafs. you can say all you want that komi is useless, but you have to take a bad contract on to trade one away.
nucks would be better off to trade with florida, take a decent prospect like shore and a high salary player like upshall who can potentially be usefully unlike that pylon komi |

Getting closer though
Dwight King but I highly doubt and I mean HIGHLY doubt he is available.
EDIT: Richardson will turn out to be a Purcell or a Moulson on a different team.....Watch. |

I agree with you, they should keep Heatley with the new additions and hope he gets rejuvenated and his numbers go up. You need him this year to really make a deep playoff run. The Wild do need an upgrade besides Suter on defense though. - Ranger71
I would tend to agree, but they do have a lot of potential in the young blue liners currently on the roster. Prosser, Scandella, Spurgeon, Falk and Stoner are all decent players, but still very young. But they also have Brodin possibly making the team this season and he's ranked 18th overall on the top 50 prospect list. Cuma is also a promising young prospect. Didn't see a lot out of Gilbert last season, but most analysts have been saying he's underated and should play well next to Suter.
I think the Wilds biggest issue over the last several years is scoring goals consistently. So with the addition of Parise, Suter, possibly Granlund that will hopefully change this season... |

Wouldn't it be funny if NHL GM's cruised these threads looking at these discussions for potential trades.
Or maybe you guys ARE GM's and you ARE actually discussing a trade and nobody even knows it....
