You say injuries happen, and therefore insist on trading away depth. I don't follow.
- BulliesPhan87

sorry wrong post....you cant have three lines that score and be 100 % defensive. The only really bad defense wise is danny...

Is this serious logic?:
Offense wasnt the problem last year. We don't need goals we need a third line that can play defense. So trade two of our best 2-way forwards for a goal scoring 1-way forward.

And you can't have a 100% defensive line and be a 100% defensive team.

Please stop this foolishness

Ohh yes we were so great defensively last year. Time to get a vet third line. Inorder to do that you have to move some pieces out.

You know the problem with flyers fans is they want:

8 top four defenseman becuase of injuries.
3 first line centers
6 wingers who score like first liners and are as defensive as third liners.

Would anyone be interested in Iggy at the dealine this year? Flames aren't in a position to ask for much and the risk is fairly low...

So players only mature offensively not defensively? Got it...

If we have the cap room then why the hell not? It's not like you're tied to that cap hit any longer than this year.

Flames would surely be in the perfect position to ask for a lot. Pretty sure every team in playoff contention would be in on him.

Why even trade voracek if we all think he will be better than Bobby Ryan? Or you just suggesting what you could live with if Homer makes a trade for him?
- stveshdy

That he will be better is speculative. Right now we know Ryan is the better-or at least more accomplished guy.

In three years, Voracek might surpass him. He might not.

Problem is there is no perfect team. Injuries happen and the cap doesn't allow it. I'm catching what your throwing though.

Hartnell and Giroux are really prone to blowing coverages. Ryan is not a good defensive player. Briere is a bad one. Simmonds is average defensively. Schenn was a good two way player in juniors, but had several really noticeable breakdowns last year

Right but what are you going to do put voracek on the first line? then read on the second? that will push schenn or simmonds to third and talbot/ feds to fourth....

whose gonna be your fourth line face off guy......god knows we were missing one last year.

That's where the cap hit comes in. How many playoff teams have the room to add him without sending too much the other way?

I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world if we have the room to spare.

Thats the risk of the trade. However, if the deal is fair I say pull the trigger. Really it's hard for any of us to think what's fair bc most people wouldn't of traded Richards, Carter and JvR for the returns when first mentioned.

Clearly it takes too much to get Ryan now.

I would offer Wellwood and a second for J-Bo. Do it now.

Our defense will be sick.

Coby Grossmann
Timmo J-Bo
Mez Schenn

We have the money. We have the cap room. We have the technology.

I'm pretty sure that either Talbot or Fedotenko was going to be a 4th line guy regardless of whatever else happened. They have several options of who can play on the top line. Schenn, Voracek, Simmonds or even Read to make it a bit more responsible defensively.
