I don't want semin anymore than a year. It's too risky. I don't think the flyers have much interest at all. But who the hell knows. Seems like a good fit in detroit. They've gotta do something this summer don't they? - Just5
Why is he so risky again? He's put up over 54 points each of the last 4 years. And as a free agent you aren't really giving anything up for him. I'd rather have Semin, Jake and Read than Ryan. And take into consideration I like Ryan more than any of those guys.
Personally I think Semin has got something to prove this year. |

Yea, but your trying to tell us what Holmgren is trying to do. We all hear and read the same rumors. - MJL
"Also... by the way Homer has operated this offseason... it seems as though he is putting an extremely high priority on getting Giroux a premier goal scoring winger. Which I agree with."
That is exactly what I said. Where was I trying to tell you what Holmgren is trying to do? |

Just laying in the weeds
I was kinda surprised that they couldn't entice Suter, though. - 77rams
I think that the plan all along was for them to both end up in Minnesota and to use offers from other teams to drive the price to where they'd both get nice fat deals.
Both NJ and Nashville made competitive offers, unless the rumors are completely wrong, and if their prime motivation was to stay, they could have and lost zero face. |

The two biggest free agents land in Minnesota, who would think that? - stveshdy
I feel that was the plan all along for those two. |

I thought Parise was going there all along. In fact, that was my guess for Buccigross' FA challenge. I said $75mm and 10 years to Minnesota |

I worded that wrongly. What I'm trying to say is that we're all aware of what the rumors and speculation is suggesting what Holmgren is trying to do.
Here is one more thing to consider. Whenever a top player is made available. Whether it is in Free Agency, or by trade. Holmgren is going to kick the tires and make inquiries to see if it is a fit. That's how the rumors are generated. |

Jonathan Bernier wants to be traded. "I asked the Kings to trade me before the trade deadline, but they refused," Bernier said. "Now that Jonathan Quick signed a long-term deal, I expect to be traded before training camp starts." Bernier has a lot of potential, but he's not going to be a starting goaltender in Los Angeles. It makes sense for him to want to play elsewhere, though it remains to be seen what the market for his services are. Most teams goaltending situations are already set at this point and some of the teams that could still use a starting goaltender, like the Toronto Maple Leafs, will likely be reluctant to acquire anything other than an experienced goaltender if they're going to make a change at all.

I did, originally. I thought it would be Detroit, Chicago or Nashville for him. But then, on the 2nd, when it came out that they were talking to each other for months....LeBron and Bosh of the NHL |

You think Doan stays or goes to a different team in the West? |

The recent vote helps the Coyotes stay put. If Doan does leave, I think it's wide open to where he could go. |

I too would rather Semin, Jake, and Read than Ryan.
Why Semin is risky is
a. He is Russian, Flyers have a poor history with relations to Russian players, esp. talented wingers.
b. He is Russian. He came from a team with a Russian Captain and an organization that has strong ties and relations with European players. They do not want him back even with his consistent scoring numbers.
c. The Capitals at times last year couldn't buy a goal. They are cutting ties with a 40 goal type scorer who supposedly doesn't have a bad two way game. Doesn't make sense to me.
d. There are whispers around the league about what type of guy he is in the locker room. It isn't good. We have a core of solid young players. It's risky to bring in questionable character like that.
So other than a 1 year deal on him...no thanks |

Not to take away any credit from your prediction (I had Parise going back to the swamps of Jersey), but that wasn't as much a surprise (he was born there) as Suter. That is until I found out his fiance is from the twin cities. Then it made sense. |

And Bobby Ryan had a bad relationship with his Stanley Cup winning head coach and publicly ripped his GM.
And despite scoring 30+ goals for 4 straight years, the Ducks are willing to trade him. That says something, too

This guy sounds awfully bitter about not being included in the Carter deal to Columbus. Your name is on the cup instead. Boo hoo. |

See I've got no problem with what they did. They took less money to play in a situation that they really wanted, and they feel like they can build something there. I can't kill them for that. Are they supposed to take the biggest fattest contract offer even if their heart isn't where that is? Damned if they do and Damned if they don't I guess |

My lone problem was them dragging it out to force more money out of the Wild. If you both wanted to go to Minnesota and be on the same team, then just go to Minnesota and sign. Don;t sit there and drag it out for the better part of a week to up the money and leave teams hanging. |
