Rangers fans may have a hard time swallowing Semin's contract. The load of Semin's cap hit may be tough to stomach. His season production only comes in spurts. There is also a chance Semin may get in Tort's face too. - Tee-Dot
The Rangers signing Semin smacks of all the pre-lockout signings that took the team no where. Bad idea jeans.

Not only that, Semin doesn't aim and will just shoot anywhere. |

Now my friends if this is the case, why has Doan announced he's waiting until next week to make a decision? that was on the premise that the decision would be made then......he's in phoenix hasn't he heard the news? |

I'm sure the profitable teams that have to support this crap excuse for a franchise will be thrilled.

F*ck keeping the team in Phoenix. in 2014 Markham Ontario Canada will have ready, a 20,000 state of the art arena which will equal or even be better than the ACC. Markham is the fastest growing city in Ontario. Bring the Yotes to Markham!!!! It will be a sell out every game. With all the fans in York & Durham region plus with many many many many many ex Leaf fans from Toronto who are sick of the Leafs, they will be making the trek from Toronto. There will NEVER be a problem selling out hockey games. I say call em the Markham Acers with their logo being a fancy big A. - GCHonda
Sorry.you'll have to deal with the leafs and Sabres....ain't gonna happen

The Flyers and Leafs are talking trade, and it is NOT Schenn for JVR. |

this by far has been the most over hyped under delivered free agency period in a long while. Parise and Suter signing with Minnesota? obviously the opportunity to win in the immediate future was not in their equation. The Semin garbage and this Doan back and forth drama coupled with Luongo and Nash non trades have made this the most uneventful off season yet. Why dont we discuss forsberg and favre too to make it complete.
i hoped parise would have re signed in NJ. I thought Suter would go to Detroit. they had the $, close to home, good team, strong coach. luongo to FL or TO, Nash to ANYONE at this point. Semin-go to the KHL please. Doan, re sign because you dont want to leave anyway. Geeze!
not my favorite free agency year by far. |

Nice signing, hope he can get/stay healthy. Otherwise Florida may have to ship in some Semin. |

While i mostly agree about the UFA period being underwhelming, Minnesota has a very good team, i dont see why they cant compete in the near future. They have a solid top 6, maybe they trade Heatley, maybe not. Granlund looks good, Mikko Koivu is a great player. You add Parise to that group with Backstrom and Harding. D might need a couple more pieces next to suter but all in all a solid looking team to me.. Just my opinion though |

Hello from Switzerland. I'm really bored by this year's UFA market. I think Kurt Sauer would qualify as a really big splash right now.
I therefore suggest that we come up with trades for Weber so his new team can offer him a 17 year deal before the new CBA is hammered out.
For Instance;
FLA: 2013 and 2014 1st Round Picks, Gudbranson, Garrett Wilson
NSH: Weber, plus possible salary dump.
or,
Habs: Plekanec, 2014 2nd Round Pick
NSH: 2013 1st Round Pick, Weber, Hornqvist, formula which explains how four different bands are comprised of the same 6 people, Nashville's only contribution to applied mathematics.

he likes to think about baseball and his grandmother
he wants to stick with one team
he brings free hair gel to each game
there must be a letterman top 10 on this no? |

The Oilers sign Weber to a 13 year $105 million dollar offer sheet. The Preds of course match, but now they know Weber wants out and he demands a trade, and the Oilers don't have to risk losing him in a year if they trade for him.
To Nashville: Taylor Hall, Jeff Petry, David Musil, 2013 1st round pick
To Edmonton: Shea Weber
I am a genius
Edit: By the way, that proposed Montreal trade is absolutely atrocious. Nowhere even remotely near realistic. More like Plekanec, Subban, and Montreal's 2013 1st for just Weber. |

I once envisioned a scenario like this with the three California teams offer sheeting each other, except now 2 have won and it isn't as fun since SJ will always suck. Besides, even if teams employ tactics like this to either hang an albatross on a rival's cap strategy or to set UFA terms, Philly and NYR will still trade for them and get teams out of jail.

You didn't catch the irony in that trade proposal at all? Even with the bit about the mathematical formula that enables the same 6 people to be in 4 different bands (or 4 in 6, whatever it was)?
Concerning the original topic, though: sure, the Coyotes leaving would be sad for the fans in Phoenix (both of them), but if you can't support a team, you shouldn't get to keep a team. The NHL is a business, and successful businesses are seldom built on good intentions and pixie dust. Play me a sad tune after it's over, Ek, but it's time for this team to hit the ol' dusty trail. |
