He woke up, read Hockeybuzz, gave a big ahhhhhaaaa! Grabbed some Irish Whisky, put it in his coffee, read the Toronto Sun, consorted with Bob McKenzie via text, looked at possible trades, rubbers stamped them "too much"! Called Nonis, told him to get the ski plane ready, grabbed Holmgren and went to the fishing lodge for the next month....... Meanwhile, we're all wasting our time, with baited breath, waiting for some results that won't happen for another year............snore.......... - JohnnyReb

I think what's bothering me most about Burke these days are all the cheap contracts that he's missed out on that carry little risk and high rewards:
- Mueller: 1yr @ $1.75M
- Wolski: 1 yr @ $600K
- Bishop: Dealt for a 2nd rounder
These are just a few examples off the top of my head, but I know there's more.
Who else should Burke have grabbed on the cheap and taken a chance on? - As_I_See_It
Yeah, same, but we have no room for our own prospects and young roster players let alone somebody else's. Still, gotta think that Connolly and Lombardi would fetch something.
Just consider if both those guys were UFA right now. Hell, they'd be on the top 10 UFA list. There's gotta be a team that needs to add some bottom 6 depth; both those guys can play center/wing too and have a contract expiring in a year. |

Hey Dom, hows things? - Dozzer
Things are things, you know.
Stressful with noisy neighbours who were evicted but are still here another week
You? |

Mueller is a cherry picker even when healthy
Wolski just hasnt been the same sine he was hurt.. his career is nearly over imo
Bishop.. you talking about Ben Bishop? if so, the leafs already have a bunch of question marks in net.. no sense taking on another - Dozzer
My point is that given what these guys have signed for, they carry VERY little risk and could possibly rebound for a huge reward. |

or just clog up more roster spots that could be used to have guys like frattin and kadri get NHL ice time. |

it would depend on what comes back.. if its part of a package to land a player like getzlaf (or of that ilk) i could live with it.. if its for a goalie or some meddling fringe star i would be upset. - Dozzer
Ya if its for a #1C ok, but if its for Luongo or something I will shove one of Burkies hot dogs up his a$$ |

Sigh, another "why doesn't Burke DO SOMETHING?!!?" post.
What UFA would you like him to sign? Of that (very) short list (should be a list of zero, but...), who do you think will produce "results"?
What trade for a number one center would you like him to pull off? There's just so many out there, can't imagine it's easy deciding on which one to land.
How about goaltending? What number one goalies are out there, available, and ready to be traded for? |

I like Franson too. I know there's advanced stats haters on here but this paints a pretty accurate picture of Franson to me:

As for our defense, yup, and the improved mobility is only going to help (that along with not pinching like crazy as Wilson had them do) us get back and cover.
I think the NHL is all about speed and transition and our team, for lacking physicality on the back end, makes up for it with good skaters across the board (save for Komi).
Should be interesting to see. - gravyface

Our Free Agent Signing this off season seems to have a good hold of the advance statistics. (this article was written in 2010 though) |

There would be and I'm sure there is, but not too many team want to add 3 - 5 million dollars of crappy bottom 6 depth. |

Oh right, Suter and Parise: two guys that could've played anywhere they wanted, but chose MINN for family/personal reasons.
Like if PITT, PHI, DET, NYR struck out -- you know, perennial cup contenders -- surely Burke could've landed them; damn parade! |
