I see a lot of Leafs fans that praise Burke, but seem to also be very frustrated with him. What's the deal? He makes great trades, but bad in free agency?

It's not Burke, that's just Leafs fans.

burke doing nothing at FA is good news for leaf fans, the ones who havnt figured it out yet are very frusterated, but yes, we are all waiting for him to make a big splash with 1 move. pieces are in place, just a matter of time if you ask me!

there's nothing to do in free agency really except add a bit of depth. it's not like there are 15 Parises and 15 Suters out there. and those contracts are completely ridiculous anyway. only players who should ever get 13 years are guys like Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos. and even then, it's a dumb idea.

It was an interview right after the deal ...we talked about it on here at the time. My best recall is that it was Duffy (or some other talking head) asking him what to expect out of Colborne ...and BB replying he has a lot of similarities to Steckel. It wasn't as flattering as we would have liked.

Let's remember that Steckel was drafted in the 1st round in 01' with the hype of being a big (but soft) top 6 centreman.

Hopefully Colborne's offense translates better ....if not then he maybe BB is right.

And I think Kessel and Nash are a wash:

Nash: perennial 30-goal guy, ~60pt year average, physical/size, 28. Puts up points with no help; bad contract.
Kessel: perennial 30-goal guy, ~60pt year average, softest forward in the league, 25; Puts up points with no help; good contract.

So you're trading 3 years in age and a good contract for slightly above average physicality (Nash had 104 hits, Ovy/Clutterbuck consistently break 200).
