thing there is with Luongo it would be hard to believe Leafs would be in the lottery. He doesn't guarantee playoffs, but he guarantees they'll be in the fight...

this is true.
Lu/Reimer is a combo i could go with for a few years.
as long as burke doesnt move a lot in the trade, if he does, hes an idiot. |

I heard a lot of people say this exact same thing when kessel was dealt to the leafs...I disagreed then, and would not gamble again.
Leafs lack grit, leadership, experience...all the ingredients needed to ensure a lottery pick. |

Its just, Stastny isnt really the kind of guy the Leafs need on their top line, IMO.

fair enough, but put Luongo in net last season instead, don't change anything else, and Leafs are no worse than 10th in east.
Lu will steal 3-4 games on his own. Goalies stole nothing last year for the Leafs |

If Kulemin, Komisarek, and 2013 1st was the offer, there would already be a press conference... - Big_Lightnin
As much as I would love to see Komisarek gone, we can't give up our first for Luongo until we see some consistency with Leafs staying out of the bottom 10. |

I hear ya....it's just not a gamble I'd make. No way in hell.
With the Leafs luck, Luo rips his groin apart in pre-season, Riemer gets re-concussed and Scrivens is the number 1.
....then we watch Vancouver proudly select Mackinnon.
no thanks. |

Leave out Percy, maybe.

Maybe Im wrong....who knows...but it seems to me that they need a guy with more grit and size to play with Kessel, and should therefore wait for someone else rather than just settling for Stastny who likely isnt even available. - noename09
There's only 4-5 guys in the league that fit the description we're really looking for, and none of them are available.
You turned me around on Dubinsky though - think he's a better fit than Stastny... however he's only really "available" in the sense he will be the center piece of any trade Rangers make for Ryan/Nash/? - can't see him being had for Bozak-MAcArther kind of packages... |

if vancouver wants anything more than a middle range prospect and a salary dump then burke should walk away. |

If Kessel and Lupul continue to put up solid numbers like last year, we don't have any problems from a scoring perspective from our top line.
Adding a Stastny greatly improves our defensive abilities, is as good as Bozak on the draw (middle of the pack), and has outstanding vision/playmaking abilities.
He's also about the same size as Bozak (listed a bit heavier, but an inch shorter).
I'd love to see Stastny centering our top line. It's one of the few center trades out there that makes sense to everyone, so unless we expect JVR to be that center we've needed since Sundin, or Colborne makes the jump.
The only other option we have is to wait for Getzlaf to hit FA next year or hopefully pry him out of ANA, but I'm doubtful that's going to happen, not until trade deadline and ANA (on the outside looking in likely) decides that they're not going to resign him and will try to fetch a hefty return for his services. At that point, there will be a ton of teams wanting him. I really think he resigns there along with Perry and that's why Ryan is being shopped to make financial room for both their raises.
Dubinsky is a possibility too, but I don't know if I see #1 center there. |
